Camera News Sony

I'm the Chief News Videographer for a small-market CBS/NBC duopoly, and we have a fleet of eleven Sony DSR-PD150s. Most of our batteries are the now out-of-production F960s, but we're replacing them with the F970s as the old ones are lost/broken.The run-time of either battery model is unheard of in the ENG business...the five-pound bricks we used on our Betacams and Doctors would last maybe 90 minutes, half that when using the camera light. With a F970, our PD150s get a solid 6-8 hours of real-world power-on time.We do use several Sony HVL-20DW2 camera lights, and we have issues with the batteries shutting themselves off. Like the previous reviewer stated, we have to put the batteries either on the Sony charger or on the camera for them to reset. My theory is the 10-20 watt power drain from the lights upsets the batteries' built-in computer.I've read complaints about how expensive the Sony batteries are, but we're only talking $105 for a battery that will power your camera for many hours.....in a news environment, it's wonderful not having to worry about batteries going dead. The old NiCad bricks were $300 or more each, and you always had to carry extras..... This is so far my favorite camera out of 3 that I've owned. I went from Nikon DX and heard so many great news about the Sony Alpha 7 line so i knows I had to try it out. Best decision I've made so far. Quality of pictures are very sharp and colors are amazing. Love the 5-Axis stability.

We use the CameraRibbon when we need to do extended handheld TV News Videography. We use Sony PMW200 Camcorders in the field, and the CameraRibbon allows us to shoulder mount it with a counterbalance that takes the strain and muscle out of the process. Plus it frees up the other hand, for live cues. The quick release mount feature allows us to switch to our tripod quickly. Note, I strongly recommend others to buy an extra lead counterweight, when using with a Sony PMW200 Camcorder.

Perfect for running and gunning on the news beat with multiple IDX Sony BPUs, working like a charm so far.

As a former news photographer, I know if you don't have it with you, you can't use it. So right after the camera,tripod,camera batteries, stick mic., Lav mic.,cables,spare tapes,batteries,wireless mic transmitter Leather-man, Gaffers tape,Skittles,pens,paper,labels,PDA,& flashlight. The next thing you need is a bag to put them in.When I saw the price of the PB-3 I was kinda shocked, I think I paid $100 for my last Porta Brace bag about 10 years ago. so I begrudgingly paid $ for this new one. ... I looked it over & found it was nothing like my old bag. The Zippers are heavier duty, The design looks the same but inside there are customized pockets for all your stuff, I was looking for an instruction sheet explaining all the pockets. there is even a LED light strip in the pocket for finding things at night & it flips out like a safety flasher, so you can be seen at night.or at least know that whoever ran you over meant to. so in closing... The belt pack is FANTASTIC! the only thing I can think of, that I would change or modify is the fact that the equipment pouches are not locked into position on the belt. Still, I am very happy with my purchase.

We use a pair of these on each news anchor for our newscasts.
