Canon 1Ds Mark 2

I have had several 1Ds bodies, and currently own 3 1DX bodies, 2 of them the mark 2 version. They are hands down the most rugged and feature ladened cameras on the market. Sure the Mark 3 has considerable upgrades, but for what I do, mostly portraiture, these are just workhorses. I have different lenses on each, and it's just nice to have enough to go around. Sure, the future is mirrorless, but I'm now in the twilight of my photography career and hope I never have to use one. I hate the electronic viewfinder, what can I say, spent my life looking right through the lens, small, medium and large format. B&H I believe are the only ones now offering this level of camera at an insane price. I gladly paid $4500 last year for the same body. Get it while it last, the Mark 3 is a hefty sum and it is going to be the last Canon DSLR for pros. Be sure to get all the glass you need now, Canon is discontinuing all the EF style mounts, glad I got the 135mm last year.

I put this head on a Gitzo GT5540LS. I use a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II with a Canon 400mm f2.8 and it is as smooth and easy to use as anything I have ever owned.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. The unit is extremely well constructed. I use it with a Canon 1DS Mark II (heavy) with the Canon 65mm M-PE Macro (heavy) and it rides smoothly throughout the image stacking process. I couldn't be more pleased.

Have owned the 1Ds, 1Ds mark iii, 1DX and 1DX mark ii but this is by far is the fastest, most intuitive, image capturing tool I've ever used. Canon tweaks each successive generation of the 1 series (I go back to the film based 1V) in just the right places to make the process of visual story telling easier and better for the working professional. So many new features to love, but two I especially am smitten with are the optical smart controller and the built in wireless image transfer capability. After getting used to used to the 'new skill' of using my thumb to move the focus point, I've learned to quickly lock on to what's important in the frame faster than ever before. Setting up the 1DX mark iii to transfer images to my laptop in close to 'real time' was almost too easy. No more cords when shooting tethered is a game changer for me... Image quality is stunning and noticeably better than my 1Dx mark ii produces. The dual pixel auto focus is substantially improved and makes 'locking on' to the subject when shooting video just flawless. This camera is not for everybody, but if you need the speed, customizeability, build quality and refinement of the best 1 series Canon to date, this is it!

I own a Canon 1Ds Mark II, and this new 5D Mark IV definitely is a step up in the following areas: 1. Automatic sensor cleaning 2. increased ISO range, for in door shooting. This is more useful than I first expected, because for a high pixel camera at this level, any camera shake would show, so the shutter speed will need to be high, and having an increased ISO range with low noise capture would provide the flexibility 3. high resolution, almost to the level of medium format 4. higher color saturation and contract right out of the RAW file capture. The image I shoot with 1Ds Mark II were soft and flat, and needs quite a bit of post adjustments. With 5D Mark IV, the original image is already sharp, with very good contrast and color saturation, so I usually do not even need to do much post adjustments. 5. Touch screen LCD screen makes it much easier to view and zoom in for played back images.

The head can handle 28-300 on Mark III 1Ds is fine. Shoot vertical I will turn the lens not from the head. For 18-200 on D2x shoot in vertical hold well no problem. After 4 years of use the head still alive(3 photo shoots/week). Own three Magic Balls on three tripods, I can't find any ball head can perform greater then this Magic Ball(Blue Ball). Take few weeks to get used to it then you will LOVE IT!

This bag actually holds my 1DS Mark II and 5D Mark II with vertical battery grip. What is even nicer is that I can use the shoulder strap that comes with the camera or I mount the digital holster on a military style utility belt. I love this product. I love it so much I have two of them.

On both 1D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III this lens is tack sharp. At least my copy is as sharp as the legendary EF 300/2.8 L IS. It delivers outstanding image quality. Even with the Canon EF Extender 2x II the quality is still acceptable. And still usable handheld for a few shots. I use this lens for sports (sailing). It's the best super telephoto you can get in terms of image quality, focal length, size/weight. Occasionally I use it for wilde life and in the zoo.

Happy to have my new main camera to replace the old 1Ds Mark iii. The extended manual is 961 pages, chock full of technology and new features. It's good to have a solid reliable fast camera.
