Updated the firmware on my gen 1 7D, plugged it in, and it worked flawlessly. Data was imported directly into the Maps feature of Lightroom. I was amazed at the precision of the location. Very pleased with the results so far, and looking forward to using this on an upcoming 2-week trip / project. 5 |

Bought this for my 7D and have been very happy with my purchase. One flaw although not with the microphone itself, is that the 7D raises the gain so high with external microphones causing hissing in lower volume situations. I am able to remove it with software, but it will be a problem with ANY external mic with the 7D until they update firmware like they did with the 5DII allowing manual gain control. The hissing is not that loud though, and does not hinder the excellent quality of the microphone. It sounds great and does not pick up the IS sounds of my lenses no longer, which was my main goal. Construction is good and the isolation mount is high quality. The whole package is compact and looks great mounted to the camera. Wind noise is controlled pretty well, however I have doubled my wind-screens to prevent it even more. I wish there was a dead-cat cover available for this microphone. Overall, very happy with my purchase. I just hope Canon will release the gain controls with a future 7D firmware update. 5 |

I haven't installed the adapter in my new 7D MK II yet. Just wanted to give folks a heads up. My MK II came with installed firmware version 1.0.5. The adapter requires camera firmware 1.1.0. No big deal. Point is, you will need to update your 7D MK II firmware before using the W-E1 Wi-Fi adapter unless your MK II already has v 1.1.0. 5 |
