Canon Fd 85Mm F 1.2

As previous owner of two Canon FD 85mm 1.2 lenses, and switching to Sony mirrorless, I wanted a low cost alternate and from it in the Rokinon 85mm 1.2 lens. Focusing a was smooth as silk and combined with magnification view provided by the a7III, produced outstanding images with that magical low depth of field. One exception, this lens is much sharper than the Canon FD counterpart. Summary, no regrets.

Great fit for my Canon 85mm 1.2

It fit great on my canon 85mm 1.2! I haven't had a problem with it yet!

I've been using this adapter with my 50mm 1.2L FD lens and the images look flawless on my Canon EOS R

These feel as heavy and sturdy as Canon ETs. I am confident using them with the RF 85mm f/1.2.

This is my favorite 85mm lens. I have the Canon 85mm f/1.2L, which is a great lens, and probably more accurate in color rendition. However, the Canon lens is a beast (it's heavy and big), the auto-focus is slow, and even the manual focus is not great (since the ring doesn't move the optical elements directly). I think the Canon 85mm f/1.2L is better if you shoot in studio or with a tripod. However, I take most of my pictures hand-held, and manual focus works better in dark environments or to take quick shots. Also, this lens is less in your face than the Canon. Compared to the 85mm f/1.8 USM, this is obviously much more expensive and only has manual focusing. But the f/1.8 isn't as sharp or has as good a bokeh (or color pop) as this lens. Other great things: built like a tank, feels great in your hand, controls are super-accurate, the lens hood is well built (metal too!). Small downside: the lens hood interferes with some filters (I can't put it on/off if the filter ring is too big).

I got this case to hold my new Canon RF 85mm 1.2 even though looking at the dimensions of each it looks like it won't fit, it actually fits perfectly. It fits with a bit of room without the lens hood and with the lens hood on reversed it fits very very snug. I've used this for two events so far and it works perfectly to hold a couple spare batteries and one additional lens. Then my camera body and second lens hands on my neck and I have everything I need for a non-paid gig at least! (I also hand my lens cleaning kit off this bag and it's a very light setup to carry around with all my essentials. Very happy with my purchase. Quality seems very high so far as well!

Having owned the 85mm f/1.2L II for four years, loving its IQ but always wishing for faster AF, I was very interested in this new lens from the day it was announced. The IS seemed like icing on the cake, but now, after having used it two weeks, I wonder how I ever got by without it. The 85mm f/1.4L's snappy AF, great IS, and, in my opinion, greatly improved ergonomics, enables me to catch many more precisely focused shots wide open--and with moving targets! I'm finding it very sharp. The CA is much improved over the old version too, with easy corrections using the eye-dropper in Lightroom. (As of this writing, LR doesn't have a specific profile yet.) Bokeh? Whether it's out of focus grass or branches or buildings, very smooth and creamy. Wide open, out of focus highlights such as small lights (Christmas trees!) take on a beautiful lemon shape, very smooth and clean. Stopping down a bit makes the bokeh balls more circular. Somehow Canon was able to make a lens with IS and fast AF while keeping the best characteristics of the 1.2L II. And for about 25% less upon release. I've now got a very fast, ideal portrait-lens that works on the run--not just in formal sitting situations. Canon has hit it out of the park with this prime.

For YEARS using the 85mm 1.2 was a delight and a dread. It's not that sharp and it's design pushed it into novelty lens territory (think the canon dream 50mm).... But finally canon has nailed the sweet spot for a fast 85mm. This 1.4 version is sharp and steady with the IS function. 5 stars.

Let's make no mistake this lens is not the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 but it is still a dam good lens. For me it feels awkward to hold in my hand due to it smoothest of the finish, but that is more on me than a fault of the lens. The quality of the images have exceeded my expectations and highly recommend this lens.
