I mostly shoot Canon R6 now, RP occasionnally... and for special events Sony a7s, a7s2, Lumix GH5S... but , recently I also got me the Lumix S5, just out of curiosity , and because here in Switzerland one store decided to slash the price beyond decency... so I bought me an S5, mostly to compare it with my beloved R6... of course I first made sure I could use all my EF glass on the Leica L mounted S5, so I got me the Sigma EF-Leica L adapter... and then I went on B&H and searched to see if there were any affordable lenses made by anyone with Leica L mount ? I mean, I can use all my Canon and third party EF and EF-S / crop glass thanks to the adapter, but heck, why not also use a lens or two with direct L-mount ? Provided they are affordable... so I went on B&H and did the search... and... almost fell from my chair ! Hello ???? $ 73.-- ??? for a 35mm f/1.4 ? Okay, wait, it's just for aps-c, not full frame... yeah okay but dude... 73 .... I mean... 73 plus shipping and customs, still less than 100 bucks.... hesitating... 5...4...3...2...1.... order placed ! .... received it within the timeframe promised for the cheapest shipping option, no complaints... then I received the box... I put it down on the table... and let it sit there for a week or so... it was almost a spiritual momentum... I mean, come on ! 73 bucks ? for 35mm f/1.4 ? so after a week I decided to open the box... OMG ! SO CUTE !!! ... AND that's it. oh, wait... using it on the S5 fullframe : in photo mode it only shoots fullframe , so with big vignetting, but surprisingly not too much of an issue if used for wide-open f/1.4 close-up portrait. And in video you can still choose between fullframe with vignetting or crop without. Even in C4K . pretty cool... 5 |
