Car Accessories Gear Knobs

My pelican case saved my camera, lens and other accessories in a car wreck. This thing is a tank! Buy one as insurance for your gear. The TrekPak divider system is also a great solution for optimizing the organization of your gear. 5 |

It's like a glove compartment in a car. You can stuff it with anything from weights to accessories you need to have at reach arm. 5 |

The D4 is a quality product, it is exceptionally well made and beautifully finished. It is not a lightweight, it is substantial and feels dense. A lightweight tripod (less than 4 lbs.) will feel top heavy. Quite unique, I want to point out some of these features: 1- the knobs are numerous, AS has done a good job in making the locks for pitch and roll a teardrop shape, the gear drives are round, therefore the two controls have four knobs. There is a learning curve to master these controls and use the head as either a ballhead or a geared head. Not difficult but not simple like many ballheads. The gear drives will save the frustration of minute adjustments that make ballheads difficult. 2- There are two pan adjustments, top and bottom, advantageous for vertical panos, also there are times one is easier to access than the other. The lock knobs can get blocked by other controls or block the controls on the head, part of the learning curve is placement of these knobs. 3- Ninety degree orientation is available in one direction as the knobs prevent the opposite pitch. 4- The AS clamp is larger on one side (the knob side) than the other, plates will sometimes require correct orientation and can not be turned 180 degrees. This is for the Classic Knob, I don't have the fliplock so I can not comment. 5- It takes both the older AS plates and the new smaller AS plates, use either, slight disadvantage for the older AS plates as they sit high in the clamp and don't have pins to prevent sliding. That AS was able to combine the best of ballheads and gearheads into the D4 is quite remarkable. They should also win an esthetic award for this design, it is a work of art. 5 |

This is THE solution for add rods to your komodo and being able to go from tripod to handheld in literally 2 seconds. The latch design is perfect and clamps down tightly to your dovetail plate. The placement of the tightening knobs for the rods is nice. I was initially going to go with the 8Sinn baseplate but after careful review I noticed that the knobs for tightening the rods interfere with the other knobs. In my opinion, I saw this as a possible hinderance to the ease of use I was looking for as I'm regularly in fast paced situations where struggling with any piece of gear is unacceptable. If you can afford it, you won't regret it. Its a deceptively simple tool but a must if you care about your gear working flawlessly and not worrying about fiddling around with the quirkiness that can come from some of the cheaper solutions. 5 |

I needed a one-inch rise because I was using a gear head and one of its knobs extends below the head itself. I'm mounted on a Platypod camera support instead of a tripod so I can't let the knob go below the head. This lifted the gear head up and is perfect. 5 |

I purchased this because I bought a new gear head. The gear head knobs were unusable because they rested on the top of the tripod top plate. The Riser Block solved the problem. This device also gave additional overall height for the camera on the tripod, which is good. It is solid and constructed very well. I am a satisfied customer! 5 |

If you're looking for a reliable follow focus/zoom control that is versatile enough to be used with DSLR as well as mini-DV camcorders in the field and in the studio, and that doesn't cost a minor fortune, this is it. The build quality is excellent, the movements are silky smooth and precise with a surprisingly minimal degree of backlash, and a profile that is compact enough to be unobtrusive but still allow for easy and comfortable access. The unit is machined in solid aluminum (except for the plastic gear, adjustment knobs and marking plate), but isn't too heavy; it's solid enough to withstand rigorous use. Adjustment knobs are located so that there's no fumbling to get to them. A generous range of horizontal gear position adjustment is provided, and the ability to mount the gear on either end of the axle is a plus. There's a movable marker reference that can be rotated around most of the focus wheel's circumference and locked into place to serve as a fixed reference to marks made on the erasable marking plate. I use the unit in conjunction with a Cavision carbon fiber rod system equipped with 35 cm rods and Red Rock microLensGears rings. A Cavision 18 follow focus whip or Cavision speed crank lever have also proven to be quite useful in some shooting situations. The only feature lacking on this unit is focus wheel stops, but I still award five stars to Cavision because they've managed to produce a reliable and sturdy professional-grade follow focus at an unbelievable price-point. This unit won't disappoint, and is worth serious consideration. 5 |
