Charge Macbook With Thunderbolt

For my new MacBook Pro M1, I first tried purchasing Caldigit's new Element Thunderbolt 4 hub. It was nothing but an endless kernel panic with the M1 chip. Caldigit implied that was Apple's fault for their implementation of Thunderbolt 4 ports, but I didn't let them make me stick around long enough to sort out who's fault it was. I returned it, and bought this OWC one and it's been SO much better! No panics yet, sleep works fine, everything returns from sleep (whereas Caldigit's would consider my Pegasus2 RAID an erroneous disconnection everytime it slept), and it's actually really nice having SPDIF (digital) audio out, ethernet, and the card readers. I wish this had one more thunderbolt port out, but then again, I could still daisy chain a couple of my thunderbolt devices no problem. So far so great for this OWC 14-port T3 dock.

I use it to hook up my thunderbolt monitors to my 2016 MacBook Pro.

I use this adapter in my new Macbook pro to connect a external storage that is a old Thunderbolt.

I would avoid taking my MacBook around the house just cause I didn’t want to deal with all this. Enter the Pluggable Docking Station. So many ports! One one side...1 HDMI, two charging USB-C/Thunderbolt, three USB-A 10 Gpps (rectangle), 1 Ethernet. And on the other side…SD card, 1 USB-A 10 Gpps w/ charging, 1 audio, 1 96W Thunderbolt / USB-C, and a power button. So more than enough! Just plug your devices into the respective ports, and connect the dock to your laptop with the 96W Thunderbolt / USB-C port (wire provided with dock). While these type of docks can be pricey, if you live on your laptop everyday like me, it’s well worth it!

I'm using this on a new Macbook pro, it's great to be able to use the older usb ports and still have the newer ports. Wish it had the older thunderbolt 2, but understand that interface is a bit more complicated.

This adapter combined with Apple FireWire to Thunderbolt , and FireWire 800 to 400 adapter for using old FireWire device with M1 MacBook Pro. Works great.
