Cheap Active Studio Monitor Speakers

I needed a monitor controller for my studio for two pairs of speakers and a couple of inputs. As much as some of the functionality of active monitor controllers appeals to me, the sound quality is first and foremost. And we all know that unless you spend $3k - $10k most active systems severely color your sound - a little more than my current budget. I wasn't sure what to expect with this affordable passive controller however, after spending a few weeks with it I can say without a doubt that it is a great addition to my studio. I hear no coloration or change to the stereo sound field. The Mute, Dim, and Mono sum functions are really handy. And the build quality feels good under your hand. My only complaint is that it would be nice if the knob travel was detented for repeatable levels. Two Big Thumbs Up! 5 |

I recently purchased the Kali Lone Pine Studio Monitor V2 speakers and I am blown away by their performance. The sound quality is crystal clear and the bass response is impressive. The compact size makes them perfect for my home studio, but they pack a punch that can easily fill a larger room. The build quality is top-notch and they look great on my desk. I highly recommend the Kali Lone Pine Studio Monitor V2 speakers to anyone in need of an upgrade to their studio setup. 5 |

This is a really nice monitor for work and video editing. The stand is a bit cheap, the speakers are awful but the picture quality is great. 5 |

Incredible and cheap equipment: high quality interface and good studio monitor controller for 200 bucks! The compatibility with Logic X is perfect, thank you Mackie! 5 |

These monitor speakers, although pricy, are very well suited to mixing and editing in protools for a studio either at home or in a formal studio setting. They are transparent with a very flat sound that does not emphasize any particular aspect of the frequency spectrum. Flat sound as used here is a good thing. The bass is surprisingly strong in my editing room which only about 8' x 10'. I did add a subwoofer for frequencies below 50Hz. The highs are exceptionally clear and the midrange very smooth. These speakers are very easy on the ears even after several hours editing. I highly recommend them. I use them mainly to edit recording of live theatrical musical performances. 5 |

Simple and rock solid studio monitor knob! If you own multiple studio speakers. This is a must! Mackie does its job as always! 5 |

It only took a few minutes to assemble and position these stands. I use them for my computer's M-AUDIO studio monitor speakers. Since I installed the stands, I've been wondering why I didn't buy them sooner. The sound is so much better having the speakers at the right height. 5 |

Even though VGA is outdated, it could still be run +100' then HDMI came in and 33' runs. Now obviously you can push it past 33' but not reliably. And especially with cheap HDMI patch cables on each side with two couplers. This is my go to HDMI for in wall non-plenum environments. A lot cheaper than a GOOD HDMI to Cat 6 active converter. I have used passive HDMI to Cat 6 (dual and single) converters and they are a waist of money in a professional environment. If you want to use it at home, sure. But if it's a client and you use a passive converter, you can kiss that client goodbye. He'll be calling me next, so Thanks. You have to watch out for which side you plug in to the source, but besides that it's great. Fits in an empty 1 conduit. I've never needed to turn the booster past 5. Good robust cable. It's not something you should be plugging directly into a laptop, but since it's active you can reliably add cheap HDMI cables and couplers and still push a signal through at Full HD. I've used the 75' also without problems. 5 |

I have Bose 901 speakers which require an active equalizer so I need a preamp power amp combo. I have a Marantz 5 channel receiver to drive the center and other channels and this works great with the receiver to drive the 901s as the front speakers. B&H shipped this unit quickly and there were no problems. 5 |

I replaced my active monitors with the ELAC speakers and a Yamaha integrated amplifier. Since the ELAC has coaxial arrangement of tweeter + midrange, I felt it would work fine for near field listening. I'm very happy with the result. With nothing playing, the combination of amp with passive speakers has no background hiss. My old monitors had audible hiss and non-defeatable auto-shutoff unless the playback was kept sufficiently loud. I'm using an RME ADI-2 DAC feeding the Yamaha amp. I chose ELAC's Satin White with Oak Sides to escape the all-black look of my old monitors. 5 |
