so far it performs as advertised :)) tested as stand alone recorder. initial opinions: solidly built. quick response to menu choices, buttons work well. size is about one human hand fingers out. tested with two hand held mics going into ch 1 and 2, chose using ch 3 and 4 as safety track, which it will do automatically as a seperate stereo file, at your choice of alternate volume level. i chose -5 db. recorded just as expected. the limiter works well. saw no distortion on either stereo file upon viewing waveform after importing into final cut pro. did not sound noisy. tested with low gain and high gain choices. nice display, really informative and bright enough to see. all four channel audio ladders displayed. i chose for the unit to auto-slate tone at -36 at head and tail, so my ears did not blast. unit wants you to aim for -16 for primary max level, and limiter aimed for that too. made for clean recording, noise floor pretty quiet for my regular usage for tv commercials/consumer stuff. formatted card quickly. has 24 or 48 volt phantom power. manual says between 6 and 11 hours of alka batts power depending on channel record setting. can power from micro usb to usb jack, cable provided in package, so any phone aux power pack could run it too. perfect size for small shoulder bag. output is stereo mini plug. menu control lets you alter output to camera volume, so outputting to canon 5d series and others should be no issue, will post again after those tests. popped card out and it immediately showed up as a dr70 card, imported flawlessly into fcp. recorded it as broadcast wav dual stereo files with one being the -5 safety file. both perfect. rotary physical volume controls for each channel. FOUR xlr jacks, so i can receive 4 wireless receivers as needed. you can choose to record 4 mono separate wav files. wish it had auto-level for those crazy press conferences, but the limiting was surprisingly effective. 5 |

this is really simple to setup and use. once you set you setting you can cut it on a record right away all the time. the only thing to do is just check the volume and you can adjust that right with the front dial at the top and it only takes 10 seconds to do. this is basically the h1 with more features and a little better audio. i love this and recommend it. even if you have the h1 you can still get good use out of this as well 5 |

I was using a homebrew Linux server for my Plex system. That machine died due to a power fluctution (looking at you First Energy). This was chosen as a replacement. Very much easier to manage, although not quite as versatile as a general prupose Linux system (then again NOTHING is as versatile). 5 |
