First, it's still made in Italy not China. This head has wonderful fluid drag resistance that rivals the much larger 502AH. It can support and control a 5-6 pound rig. Not as well as the 502 but well enough and at half the size/weight. The two settings for tilt drag (long lense/short lens) work well. The pan drag is quite stiff and it will pull the tripod legs off of the ground with a light load, but if you hold down the tripod or otherwise control your movements this thing is smooth, solid and a pleasure to use. Great size/weight for run and gun, use on a monopod or small tripod or slider. 5 |

I tried 'made in China' imitation 200pl plates and holders and found quality control issues. On some the plate didn't fit snugly in the holder. Some you couldn't fully clamp the plate. I finally went back to all 'made in Italy' plates and adapters and heads and am happy that my cameras are not going to come loose. Probably at the worst possible time. Although Manfrotto might not be the most high tech gear, it is certainly robust and well made. 5 |
