Cisco Access Router Wireless Configuration Guide

2024-05-09 04:52:29

I purchased this router along with a UAP-AC-LR access point. They work great together and the configuration allows me to power both units with a single power brick. At some point I may get a second access point, and this configuration allows for some expansion. In terms of setup, there are a wizards which will allow you to get up and running quickly. I personally did not find find this router's GUI any more confusing than others that I have used. Setting up any wireless network takes some fiddling, so if you are having trouble figuring things out yourself, ask your tech savvy friend for help! One thing I will say is that this router does allow for one to shoot themselves in the foot due to its vast configuration options. My router is connected directly to a CenturyLink fiber box for internet. This requires somewhat of a custom setup as it uses PPPoE and a special VLAN setting. Well, it turns out that after setting all of that up, I had somehow disabled the firewall and did not realize it until I saw a couple of failed login attempts in the security log. Long story short is to double check your settings before heading out to lunch :) Oh, and stability is amazing :) I am currently showing 2 weeks and 6 days of up time and still trucking along strong. Overall, it seems that building a home network using a separate router and access points is the way to go. I am very happy that I decided to move away from the all-in-one model.

Replace your consumer grade wireless router you bought from @ with an EdgeRouter or USG from Ubiquiti and one of these access points and the days of dropped connections and flaky netflix are over. This access point has been shown in some studies to actually improve your IQ by a measurable amount as well as help bring harmony to your home. The glowing blue ring of wifi bliss is an added night lite bonus. (can be turned off)If your switch does not support POE you must use the supplied injector. The power cord on the injector is very short, so plan ahead. This unit does not even blink when faced with almost 20 wireless devices simultaneously connected. Phones, Rokus, laptops, Dish Hoppers, iPads, android tablets, etc.

I bought this router to accommodate a web/minecraft/media server, constant online gaming, excessive video streaming, and three wireless access points (my house has metal lathe, which acts like a faraday cage). Was previously using some Netgear garbage home user Wi-Fi router that couldn't keep up with the demand and was awful to manage. This router is a breeze to manage if you have at least basic networking knowledge. The 10 ports allow me to wire my server, computer, access points, and other peripheral gear to keep the wireless networks from getting congested. The quality of my home network improved dramatically and allowed me to actually utilize every drop of the gigabit ethernet we pay for. I also appreciate Ubiquiti's detailed firmware upgrade logs. I would absolutely recommend this router to anyone looking to have fast, easily configurable internet at home, and I'm sure it would hold up well for a small business too.

I needed internet access in an old building next to my house. It is too far away from my house to be supported by my wireless router. However, it does share electrical wiring with my house. Running new Cat5 cables was not a good solutions for a variety of reasons so I decided to try TP-Link's AV100 Gigabit Powerline Starter kit. The setup was very easy, basically plug and play. The price was very affordable. While not as fast as a direct connection, it still meets my needs.

I have four of these, configured as access points. That means I have an ethernet cable connecting each to my router. It provides outstanding WiFi coverage to the rooms these are in. The 5G network in particular is crazy fast; I get 500+ mbps/s on my phone. I generally don't recommend extender mode, in which these units relay your phone's wireless signal to the router, via another wireless signal.

This was an upgrade over my old Cisco PLC's. They power my network to an access point in another floor of my home. With the old PLCs (PLS400), I got 8-10Mbps. With the AV2000 I get 40-50 Mbs. I note that the power circuits for each of them is on the same phase of the breaker box. Someday I'll place my main lan line on them and measure actual speed. Until then, I'm most satisfied with performance. Time will tell reliability.

Im replacing 2 cisco 1600 series access points. These are cheaper, dont need a contract for updating firmware, and faster than the Ciscos Im replacing. They are also easier to set up and configure.

My old Cisco stopped and had to get a new one. Just bought a new Night Hawk router a few months ago. This new modem is really fast and pairs up very easily

I bought this router with my neighbor's recommendation (he is a certified Cisco Networking Professional). It is very configurable. It has apps that you can download such as for home network security and child protection. I would definitely recommend this product.

I've been working with a wireless Cisco network for several years now. I got fed up with licensing and cost issues and have been more than pleased with this. These were incredibly easy to deploy, and I've now got a great wireless network for a reasonable budget.
