Cisco Switch Route Vlan To Internet

I needed a small switch to configure a VLAN, and it works fine.

Needed the switch for a simple PoE device and VLAN configuration. Easy to work with.

If you need a switch that can be managed by unifi and do vlan tagging this switch is perfect especially at its price point

Needed this to connect a Ubiquiti G3 camera through a Cisco switch. Works perfectly!

I purchased this to complete my vision on building a mobile Cisco switch room on wheels...this did the trick.  I included some photos on how I modified it to work for me.  I added some L brackets in the back for extra stability and now it is solid and sturdy.

It's not a fancy managed switch, but it works for small stuff. You might miss being able to define your own vlan IDs (this only has 1-10), but other than that it has easy LACP that makes setting up a NAS with bonded NICs on the 2.5 Gbps ports a snap. Great throughput for backups.

Capable enough for a complex home network. With a VLAN capable router this switch serves as the root of other managed and unmanaged switches and direct drops. Separates Core, Guest, and IoT VLANs with space left over

Great little managed switch. Was easy to get the vlan's configured, and shipped with the newest firmware and software versions. Much appreciated!

I wanted to set up a dedicated vlan for my "internet of things" (hue lights, smart thing, google home, roku, etc) so they would just have access to the net to download updates, searches, etc, but not have access to everything else (NAS, other computers, etc). That required both a wireless network and dedicated ports to be associated with the VLAN. While I had done this with a couple consumer routers (flashed w/ tomato and merlin), I didn't like the disjointed setup, administration, etc. Bought into the ubiquiti unifi ecosystem and love it. Powering my access points by just connecting an ethernet cord makes setting this up trivial. Went for the 16 port switch (rather than the 8 port) because it seemed the sweet spot for price vs expansion. It also provides greater flexibility in number of devices and poe requirements (poe+ vs just poe) when compares to say the 8 port w/ 60w. Setup with the switch (in unifi console) was trivial. Assigning ports to a specific VLAN was as simple as selecting an option in a drop down. Powering my access points was simply plug and play. The USG was more of a pain to set up due to it defaulting to the 192.168.1 network, but worked around that with some fiddling. I wish the switch better supported a wall mount option out of the box. The included brackets only work for rack mounting as they'd stick out beyond the switch if rotated in any other direction. Could work if you don't mind the switch sticking out a little from the wall rather than sitting flush.

Currently in a small home lab network, this mini switch is ideal for this application. VLAN assignable and POE what more could you ask for
