Davinci Video Editor Review

I am using this in the Blackmagic Davinci Resolve video editor to correct the colors. Im often on site with multiple cameras around - e.g. two video cameras (both different) and several smaller stationery cameras. This allows me to quickly bring all of the cameras into line with each other such that it is not obvious in the final product when I switch from one camera to the next. In the past this took quite some time to achieve, so this is a huge time saver. 5 |

While waiting for the Speed Editor Keyboard to be delivered, I viewed the few YouTube videos already posted. The reviews varied according to whether the reviewer favored the Davinci Resolve Cut panel vs. the Edit panel. (NOTE: The Speed Editor works only with Davinci Resolve, and only with version 17 or later). Keyboard functionality is full in Cut and reduced in Edit. Fortunately, most of my editing is done in the Cut panel, so I can take advantage of the full range of Speed Editor functionality. According to the vendor, the Speed Editor Keyboard is best used with both hands: the left hand to select appropriate function buttons, and the right hand on the scroll wheel. That seems natural after a bit of familiarization with the key layout. I find that the Speed Editor does, indeed, save a lot of time compared to the usual keyboard and mouse interface; however, at least with my edits, I need to also use the keyboard and mouse along with the Speed Editor: it does a lot, but not everything. The keyboard can communicate with Resolve over either bluetooth or a USB-C connection. For producers who may have a lot of clips to review, select in and out points, lay out clips in the timeline, and add transitions, the Speed Editor would be a worthy investment. It is solidly built, the weighted scroll wheel is delightful to use, and its low cost will likely be repaid many times over with the editing time saved. Highly recommended to speed Cut timeline editing in Davinci Resolve. 5 |

This device makes the DaVinci Resolve cut page easier and faster to use (once your fingers learn the patterns, of course) To understand the plus and minus side of that you need to understand a bit of how Resolve is structured. The cut page is intended for fast editing, largely oriented around blog or quick edits. This device works great for that. The more intense formal editing done on a a major motion picture may not find either this device or the cut page it supports to be very interesting. Some buttons on the speed editor match functions on the edit page, and these work, of course. But a serious editor will be happier with the (MUCH more expensive) other control tablets available from Black Magic. On the other hand, if you move quickly and get this Speed Editor for free as part of licensing DaVinci Resolve you are a BIG winner if you are in the right user group. 5 |

The price is really good because you're buying a laptop with a very high dedicated NVIDIA video memory (16GB), very good intel i9, and you can upgrade the RAM up to 64GB (recommended for big panoramas in Photoshop) and add another NMVE memory (very recommend to storage LOG videos to edit faster in Davinci). I use this laptop for video (Davinci Resolve and Topaz Video AI) and photo editing (Capture One, Topaz Photo and Photoshop) and it works really fast! The only but that has this laptop is the really big charger. 5 |
