This is my first review I have ever written (buying computers sine the 1970's), and only because this CalDigit Element is so good I was compelled to write. I have a new Dell XPS 15 inch 9530. I had options of purchasing the Dell WD22TB4 hub (made for this laptop) or getting the CalDigit. After doing a lot of research I choose the CalDigit because of the vast amount of thunderbolt ports. My Dell laptop had some issues like 4 motherboard replacements, 3 speaker replacements, one screen replacement and one keyboard (ALL IN THE FIRST YEAR). I was hesitant to buy another Dell product. I have my OEM Dell power adapter plugged into the USB-C (right side) to power the laptop because the CalDigit only delivers 60 watts which is no problem. The laptop understands which power to use. What do I gain from this decision. I have 3 empty Thunderbolt 4 ports on the CalDigit and one Thunderbolt 4 port on the laptop free (the other TB4 is used to connect the CalDigit). So I end up with: 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports free 4 USB - A (10 gb) available I have the best of both types of ports. I rather make my own decision as to what the port does instead of a hub having only a set determined specific device ports. This unit out performs any hub I have ever had. In fact the CalDigit's construction is amazingly well built and looks good. 5 |

The fact that this is the second WD19TB I buy shows that I really like this dock. (As I am working in 2 places, I wanted to have it in both!). Pros and cons: + One (tiny) USB-C plug, everything taken care of: USB devices, network, multiple monitors and even charging the device. + Very nice integration into Dell notebooks: No need to open the device. Simply push the button - or even use the plug event to power on the notebook. Can't be more convenient than that? + No Fan (like the old WD16TB dock had) + Works with all TB-able notebooks I used so far (MacBook, Asus, Dell, ..) - To get the full power output from the dock, you have to use a Dell notebook (E.g. gamer notebooks from other manufacturers might not be able to charge and be used in full power mode, even though the power brick should have plenty of power to do it - note that this is due to the USB-C spec, there was recently an addendum which might change that going forwards). - It is on the pricy side - If driving a high res monitor (2560x1440 and above) using an HDMI cable, you might get only 50Hz out of it and using many notebooks you will get a flickering (display on/off) over time. You should really use a DP cable. - It has only one USB plug at the front - which is a bit on the low side considering that you might plug in mouse and keyboard. Yes, there are more plugs on the back side, but it is finnicky to get to them once set up. - Be aware that the notebook has to be fairly close to the dock as the cable is not easy to be bend, and the outlet location is fixed (on both sides). 5 |

There are a lot of cable organizers out there (and if you have been shopping around like I have, you know what I mean). I bought this item to keep the cables and power block in one place for my laptop. I have my laptop in a Thule 15 Attache Case, and there is plenty of space for the cables and power block inside the case - except that everything is loose. This Cocoon organizer solved that problem immediately. Loose cable and power block are gone - plus when I need these items I just pull out the Cocoon organizer, remove the items from the organizer and set everything up, and I'm good to go. Same simplicity when breaking everything down and putting it all back into my Thule Attache case. Looking at the product page you see many size options available. I went with the 12x8 because it fits perfectly inside my 15 Thule - with all of the items on the organizer. If I had gotten a larger size, the organizer would not have fit - with all of my items on the organizer. I got the pink color because most of my items for my laptop are black - and everything is easier to find with the contrasting background. Sure blacks looks nice, but then again, it's hard to find a black cable on a black background - or maybe it's just me... I bought 2 of these. One for each of my laptop bags. So, If you are looking for a great organizer for your laptop bag, school bag, work attache bag, or maybe something for your home office, this is a great organizer to get. I hope this review was helpful for you. 5 |
