Desktop Computer I7 12Th Generation
Robert | 0000-00-00 00:00:00 |
I wanted a PC with an eight-generation I7 desktop CPU, not a slower laptop U-series chip, with plenty of ports including modern ones. This is the only box I could find other than farm more expensive gaming machines. Although there are a few negative reviews on A****, the NUC817HNK is perfect for me. It's powerful and up-to-date without being subject to the laptop "tax." I'm using it with Crucial CT2K16G4SFD824A DDR4 SO-DIMMs and a Samsung MZ-N6E1T0BW 860EVO M.2 SSD. 5 |

Why? Well, it's 'unlocked'. It's fast. It's 12th generation. I don't need cpu graphics, but for 'new' builds or a motherboard replacement, it's perfect for an initial display or while tracking 'glitches'. I must admit, overclocking is left to the motherboard, and this hopped to a 4900MHz clock-rate almost out-of-the-box. Idle stays around 28-32C; light gaming pushed it to 40C. GFx card was in the 48-50C range and didn't trigger the fans to run. So, why not an i-7 or i-9? Cheaper and nearly equal across lots of stress tests with a good memory configuration, and I wanted a board to make use of my DDR-4 so this chip made sense. Unspent money meant I could grab the fancy fans! 5 |

This is the 13th generation i7 processor. The very latest one. The laptop seems to be built very well especially considering that this is a 2 in 1. So it will need really good hinges as it switches back and forth between a tablet and a laptop. It does not come with a digital pen. So I bought one separately. Overall, it seems like a solid laptop worth the money. Combine it with the 3 year warranty and you are golden for at least 3 years. It does not have a fingerprint reader, but that is not that important for me as you can always use the face biometrics to sign in. Overall, good value for money in my opinion. I hope that it stays good for a few years. My previous HP laptops have all been good. So I think that this one should as well. 5 |

My previous system had an Intel i7-2600K doing the work. To say that the i7-8700K blows it away is stating the obvious. It's faster and more efficient in every way. Video encoding is more than 3X faster in my few tests. 7th & 8th generation Intel CPUs also have the necessary hardware to playback even UHD Blu-ray. In my case it was time for a system upgrade and there were a lot of choices. Last generation's 7700K had come down in price and AMD Ryzen CPUs offer more cores for the price. I chose the 8700K due to the maturity of the platform, it works beautifully, I've had no software or hardware issues. Of course you will need a new motherboard as you would with a Ryzen and maybe memory too. If you decide to go with the 8700K it will give you years of service. There are always new products coming around, if you're in the market I think this is a good choice now. Availability is limited but should increase so be patient and don't buy one marked up in price. 5 |

I put this module in a Lenovo S340, with Intel i7 10th generation processor, and it's now a rocket with a total 20 GB of RAM. The machine's maker says that it can be upgraded only to 12 GB RAM, 8 on top of the soldered 4, but this 16 GB module was read without any incidents. 5 |

Great, small desktop that looks good and is made of quality materials. I got it with the 13th gen i7 and it is much faster than I expected. Love the Wolf Security. Well exceeded expectations. 5 |

This is a review for i7-9700, 500GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, no GPU version. This is an ideal workstation for professional applications that do not require the added cost of a GPU. Of course, this is configured to simplify adding a GPU at at later time, if needed for graphics-intensive work or gaming. It comes equipped with a beefy power supply and easy, no-tool access to the ample interior--with generous additional bays and connectors--which simply the process. As equipped, this makes a fantastic uber-desktop for handling MS office software, Adobe PDF, internet use, watching videos (and light editing), recording and mixing audio using Cubase or other DAW. It is exceptionally well made, using top quality parts. Owing to the heavy duty power supply and the SSD, this PC is nearly silent. The CPU (i7-9700) is a top performer for desktop office and audio tasks, and the included 16 GB RAM is more than enough to speed up workflow. The particular PCIe M.2 SSD is a high performance beast! Cubase and other software load quickly and this tower boots up unbelievably fast. HP support is exceptional, if you ever need it. One big advantage of getting a workstation model like this as opposed to a standard desktop, is that the 3-year onsite warranty and support are included in the price of the workstation. No added fees for upgraded warranty. B & H staff is consistently awesome at every stage--pre-ordering advice, suggesting upgraded components, website ordering, in-store pickup and Guest Technical Services. I used the onsite Guest Tech Services staff at the B & H store to install a secondary internal SSD that I purchased at the same time as this workstation. They were fast, professional, friendly, and extremely reasonably priced. 5 |
