Portra 400 outshines all current portrait photographic technology, including digital. It's dynamic range kills all opposition, it's subtle tones and color make portraits really shine.

New to digital photography and am amazed what the technology can do from the days of my Minolta SL R I purchased in 1972

Technology has come a long way. I remember when this digital storage medium was only available in 256MB! Today you (as at Oct. 2019) you can get up to 1TB in this form factor. This Sandisk 400GB microSD card has cause me to retire my Patriot Magnum 2 256GB Flash Drive. The available space on it is actually 367GB however that is more than 133GB than my retired flash drive. Transfer speed is not bad as I have gotten up to 68MB/s (WRITE) and over 95MB/s (READ) over USB 3.0 Gen. 1. Whenever I test this card on a USB 3.1 Gen 2 computer, I will update my review. I plan on getting the 512GB and the 1TB versions of this card however I am waiting for the prices to come down... they are way too high at this point. Thanks to the great pricing offered by B&H Photo, I was compelled to get this card. If you search around, you will not find any other vendor that can beat B&H Photo's prices! Secondly, you get peace of mind buying from B&H Photo because you never have to worry about getting a 'fake card.' You ALWAYS get GENUINE cards from this dealer.

I am 75 yo and over the years I have collected many slides and negatives that have fond memories embedded in their gel. I wanted to convert from gel to digital format to rescue the memories from deteriorating media and make them more shareable among future generations. I tried several different reflective scanners and learned that this typeof technology inherently cannot fully capture the rich data embedded in the gel. Only recently has high quality transmittable technology become reasonably economical for home use. For me the 8200i SE has been the perfect solution. It is compact and easy to use, and the scan quality more than meets my needs. It does not do automatic batch scanning but I have found that to be a very minor issue. Scanning a slide can take several minutes, which may bother some people but I have found that multitasking eliminates frustration while waiting. The biggest downside is the Silverfast software. While Silverfast has powerful image processing tools, I found the interface and tools to be largely non-intuitive. Also the user license is too restrictive. The bundled software can't be used with other types/brands of scanners and I have not found a way to import and edit pre-existing digital images that were not created by Silverfast. As others have noted I have found VueScan to be a much better sofyware solution. The bottom line is that I am very pleased with the hardware and I highly recommend it for home use.
