Digital Cameras With External Mic Input

This Mic has excellent performance and low noise; however, I purchased it to use with my Nikon D7000 and discovered the Nikon external mic pre-amp input stage is too noisy for an external mic connection. I initially tested the mic with an Apogee Duet 2 with Wave Lab 7 and found the mic to be very low noise with excellent stereo performance. The Nikon D7000 internal mic has very little noise; however, connecting a high quality external mic is not an option due to it's poor external mic input noise performance.

Great cable for using with external mics that use a 3.5mm to xlr input on cameras. Measure the size you need since they manufacture 1 & 1.5 foot of the same cable.

Great camera for family video. Simple to use, good quality video, and the external mic input is a great plus! Note -- do not purchase the Edit 100 Camera Bag which is listed as a recommended accessory. This bag is too small!

I use this to record voice lessons. I like that it has an external mic input, but I have been happy with the sound quality for lessons (for recitals I would probably hook up an external mic for better quality.) Very useful.

20 MP sensor, contrast and phase detection AF, external mic input, good video modes, great stills. Great compact camera with excellent ergonomics.

This is the least expensive camera I've found that can do all the things this one does. It has a microphone input for improved audio through an external mic. It has a headphone output to monitor audio. It has great picture quality. We've used it to shoot a low budget documentary for local cable and the web, and it has performed great.

Canon has created an avchd camcorder that has all the right features: external mic input, headphone out, composite and component out, on-screen vu meter, ability to adjust audio levels, and loads of easy to get to settings in the touch screen menu. And unlike many camcorders that record in mpeg4, this camera is completly compatible with Final Cut Pro using the log and transfer feature. Well done Canon! You've done something that Sony, Panasonic, and JVC have not done at this price level.

I film live events using Canon XL2 cameras. The cameras are a great tool, but they do not accept line level audio input. It must be mic level. On one important shoot, I double checked with the audio technician if he would be able to provide mic level input. He told me that he could, but in fact he could not. I showed up to the shoot without audio tie in. I was forced to use my own mic system. At least I was prepared enough to do that. Never again. These little in line adapters do a fine job reducing line level to mic level without having to carry lots of other equipment.

I have 1 for each of my 4 digital cameras because they are the do everything lens.

The Olympus ME-52 noise-cancelling microphone has several unique features that make it attractive to our particular needs. I am the operations manager of the journalism dept. at a small Christian university, and we have recently upgraded to the BlackMagic Design Pocket Cinema cameras for recording interviews for our weekly student-run newscasts. The BMD cameras have an external mic jack, and I needed an external lapel mic that records with good audio level and quality, reject wind and other noises, and preferably does not require a battery that may die or (worse) leak. The ME-52 detaches from its short 3.5mm cable connector, and I combine it with a Rode 10 ft extension cable. This allows me to put the lapel mic, wind screen, and swiveling lapel clip in a small case, which in turn goes in the BMD case. I keep the Rode extension cable in a separate compartment in the BMD case. The swiveling mic clip is an added bonus: it quickly adapts for male or female shirt lapels, and can be switched easily without detaching for either side of a jacket. Detaching the mic from the cable also aids in routing the cable through clothing. For our purposes, this mic and accessories as such is almost perfect, and the results are excellent (especially for the price).
