Disaster Proof Hard Drive

Really great hard drive, with plenty of space for storage! Future-proof!

Easy to use, software and user interface is geared towards being dummy-proof ... like an iPhone. Though it would be nice to have a faster hard drive spool speed (this is 5400rpm), the purpose of an external hard drive is safe and secure storage and the software that safeguards my data is world-class.

Using the enclosure for external drive on MacBook Pro 13 unibody. Wanted the Firewire 800 speed for an external bootable drive. Found it best to follow instructions of NOT screwing the hard drive down to the heat sink(even though there were enough screws in the package to do so). As it turned out two of the drives I was using were bad so it was easy to just open the end-cap and slide the I/O board with hard drive out to replace then slide it back in. The two end-caps (one permanent the other has screws to hold it in place) hold parts inside fairly well with a 2.5 5400 rpm SATA hard drive. This case is not intended to be water-proof, shock-proof or dust-proof etc. Just an enclosure for an external hard drive best used laying flat and still. Happy with the fact that package includes USB 2 to USB 3 cable as well as Firewire 800 cable. device is capable of daisy-chaining Fireire 800 devices since it has two ports. Included is a pleather carrying case. Has a tiny on-off switch. Case is see-through clear plastic with reasonably thick construction. The blue LED when turned on is a good visual cue not to shake or move the enclosure as the hard-drive is on and spinning. Careful not to tighten side screws to hold the end-cap in place is they may strip or crack the plastic piece.

The hard drive is basically bullet proof, and noticeably sturdier than anything else. I have like four of them for various projects, and now I can't go back to anything flimsier. I feel like I can crush other hard drives if I look at it wrong. It's a bit expensive, but if you're already paying for Adobe CC every month as are most photographers, and can therefore include the savings from the free month voucher, then this hard drive effectively costs about as much as those cheaper, flimsier models I mentioned earlier. So it's basically a no brained to get this.

I have a 2 year old that plays with all of my things and this military grade shock proof hard drive is perfect. She can't brake it! It is powered by what you plug it into so no wall outlet needed! The shipping was even really fast! I have absolutely no complaints about this product.
