Do Lithium Polymer Batteries Swell

With the current restrictions on shipping lithium polymer batteries, AC adapters are sorely needed for studio assignments that have larger numbers of photos that need to be people.

Purchased a Sony A7Riii and an extra battery a few months back. I was quite impressed with how long the factory battery would last in comparison to my previous camera, a Sony A6400 with factory NP-FW50 battery. With the A6400 I would need extra batteries, many extra batteries! To save money, I tried a few different aftermarket batteries. They would work for a time but eventually would swell and stick in the camera body, the Sony factory batteries were superior. With the move to the A7R, I would get three times more life out of one battery. I had ordered a third battery as a backup just before a week long trip into Maine. Only had to swap into the second battery towards the end of the week even after 3000 shots and video, many using AF-C! Yes, I do try to practice battery management while using my camera which helps. However the factory batteries are trouble free and worth the money from my perspective. Good fit and finish, I have yet to have one stick or swell.

Yes, you can buy knock offs at a much lower price. I have times when a knock off would swell and NOT fit into my cameras. Also, they do not seem to last nearly as long. I would rather own 2 of these batteries then 4 of a knock off brand. Canon batteries hold their charges longer and no question arises about their compatibility with a Canon charger which has occurred with other brands. Just consider how much you have invested in your camera and other accessories and even the cost of a trip to Europe or elsewhere. You want and deserve dependability.

Had to but Fuji since third party batteries can swell up and get stuck. Happened to me in front of a client and I looked like an idiot trying to tap the bottom of the camera for the old battery to slip out. Lesson learned.

I already had two of the Nikon EN-EL15c Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Batteries, but I recently purchased the Nikon MB-N11 Power Battery Pack with Vertical Grip for my Z7ii which takes two of the EN-EL15c batteries, so having a spare made sense to me. I also own several EN-EL15 batteries for my D850 and have experience zero problems with Nikon batteries.

Like the ability to change 2 batteries at the same time and keep them together. Thinking about getting another for my other two Lithium Ion batteries.
