Do Security Cameras Record Audio

Trying to reply to a question about this controller. Do you think this would control zoom and record on a Sony rx10 ii ? and my answer would be . NO. that type of Zoom on those type of cameras do not allow for a automatic zoom. the zooms are normally manual. and dont provide for that feature. I use a lot of sony video body based cameras and this zoom controll works great. you may have to get an adapter depending on the model. but no, wont work with the sony RX10ii.- Monte

Installed this in an older Core i7 tower to record security cameras with TrueNAS. After running exclusively SSDs for so long, this is a noisy drive, but it's working very well. Several high-bitrate cameras are recording to it simultaneously without write issues. It struggles to read the recorded data while it continues to record the camera feeds, but that's expected given the number of cameras I'm sending to a single drive right now.

I use this so I can record clean audio from a board and have the cameras located around the room. Or you can use several mics and monitor/adjust them o a single unit. The microphones on it also work extremely well.

Was needing to have a simple way to record audio to one of our IP cameras, and this device did exactly what it was supposed to do. It allowed us to run the microphone, amplifier, and camera off one PoE connection. Easy to install.

I use this to shoot double system sync with Pocket Cameras and the JVC LS300. I don't attach it to the camera, but have my sound person use it on a strap in the old Nagra style, with the optional external battery supply made for it. We phantom power a Sennheiser 416 on a pole, without a mixer or preamp, and the audio is excellent for documentaries. Since I only record one channel in my type of work, the audio monitoring complaint doesn't affect me. In fact, I set it at dual record and get two identical channels, with one set at minus 6db for protection. It's a very light and small unit, a real pleasure to use - reminds me of the Walkman Pro days.

We've been shooting video with DSLR or Mirriorless cameras for years and with this unit I finally have something that handles audio the right way! I haven't even been able to tap all it's features yet. Generally I use it on interviews to monitor and adjust the level of the talent. I record on to the SD card as a back-up even through I record video and audio via our Sony a7s on to an Atomos Inferno. Good peace of mind. I either mount this mixer/recorder on our cage that hold the a7s or just sit with it in my lap during an interview. Sound quality is great, strong pre-amps and it's nice to have locking XLR connectors. i

I'm using the Tascam DR-70D in a live event environment to record 2-channels of audio from a mixer board while simultaneously sending that same audio out to multiple cameras, each of which also record. The result is that all cameras get identical audio. Therefore you can easily sync multi-cameras in Post (without a timecode or Genlock system) and yet have a clean high quality audio on the video track. You've probably read this unit can also generate a slate tone which is nice because it shows up visually in the camera's audio track, further aiding syncing.Manipulation of all the panel controls and menus is straightforward except, in my judgment, for three issues:1. Deleting files from the SD card, something you do repeatedly, is way too many levels down into the menu structure, and how to select one file versus deleting all files is ambiguous and inconsistent.2. How to control all inputs. I struggle with the ambiguous terminology used in the menu and manual. The unit actually has 7 input channels (only 4 used at one time). But with 4 knobs on the front panel, how do I assign which of the 7 inputs are controlled by which of the 4 knobs?. (The 7 channels are the 4 obvious XLR/TRS ones, 2 built-in mics on the back panel, and a convenient 1/8 input TRS connector for either another mic or line level).3. Several front-panel buttons serve multiple uses (which is OK) but the manual only vaguely explains them and is even inconsistent in one case. There is no built-in battery to retain clock settings. The unit also has playback capability but I have not and probably never will use it for playback.Everything else seems reasonable and well-designed and is as promoted in the literature.
