I added this adapter card to my 4 y/o HP desktop to gain USB 3.0 capability. I found it easy to install and also purchased with it and installed a StarTech 4 Pin Molex to SATA Power Cable Adapter (6) from B+H, although not necessary to run my two USB 3.0 external hard drives. But for $ why not get the power cable in the event you need to power a device that needs the extra juice? I have not tested any actual transfer speeds; however, I do notice a much, much faster transfer rate when I back up the data on my computer's C: drive to the external hard drives. I also intend to use another of the card's USB 3.0 ports to attach a USB 3.0 SDXC/CF card reader. Instructions for installation of the driver on the accompanying CD was easy. 5 |

I used the cord to plug in to a power strip those bulky transformers used to power external hard drives. These shorts cords work as liberator cords. 5 |

I had bought many 2TB external hard drives. Years ago they were large and also had to use power adaptors. The whole thing is a big chunk with two tangling wire cords. Now this drive is very small and quiet and only a USB cord would work for both computers and TVs. The 2TB capacity is decent and allowed on most cable or sitelite boxes and smart TVs. 5 |

I have purchased several of these external hard drives. They are great because they don't need a separate power source; they get power from the computer they are plugged into. Just plug them in and transfer all your data, photos, and videos directly to the WD My Passport. Great for a backup of all your files. 5 |
