I use it to keep the lens from getting dirty or scratched. Does the job well ... no impact on image quality, color, or exposure. Screwing and unscrewing the filter from the lens is a bit stiff ... cannot tell if it is the lens or the filter thread. Probably the lens as the filters seem to have a smoother action on my old Nikon metal barrel lenses. I tripped and fell, hitting my D40 with the 18-55 kit lens and the filter on the sidewalk. Everything survived, and even though the filter took the brunt of the hit, it was not damaged. 5 |
