I use this to assist in recording my bands. This allows me to place my Tascam DR-40 in the best location and to pause and start recording discreetly and quickly. No more Wait, Wait, I need to start the recording. when someone starts or counts off a tune.

I still have the original DR-40, but it’s pretty long in the tooth at this point, so I am giving it away to one of my students after purchasing the new DR-40X. The audio specs seem to be about the same on the “X” version (the old DR-40 sounded great, so no problems there), but this one has a daylight screen that comes in very handy as well as the USB interface and a few other features. I’m using this for location recording/DSLR recording as well some rudimentary music production (I’m a hobbyist in that arena). All in all, I love the Tascam products! Great value. One caveat is that it doesn’t come with the USB cable (micro USB), so keep that in mind when hooking it up to your computer.

I used 4 DR-10Ls and 2 DR-10Xs for multiple presenters in recording a corporate meeting. Worked perfectly. The extra audio editing in Hindenburg Journalist Pro was worth the elimination of mixing live on location. Slating at the head of the recording was essential - just a loud clap. I had to adjust the duration once in Final Cut Pro, but got a perfect result in the completed video.

The DR-10X is compact and has great sound. It minimizes handling noise compared to having a cable connection to a recorder. My only small complaint is that it takes a bit of getting used to to be able to stop recording and turn off the unit. The dual recording mode has proven very useful -- to have a second recording at -6 dB from the main one.

if you use a dr-100 for field recording, you know that the lithium battery (bpl-2) does not last too long if phantom power is needed. i have 2 batteries and i run out of power every time. when this external battery came out, i bought it very fast to try it. for my surprise it works amazingly good. highly recommended. i use 6 duracell 2450 mah on it and it lasts for many, many hours using the phantom power on my dr-100. cheers
