These are Great radios! They give about 1 mile of very strong coverage in normal use. The max range is about 6 miles due to the curvature of the earth. Only getting higher off the ground will increase range. They are very clear and can run off of AA batteries if you need longer life than the rechargeable ones that come with the radios. Very useful in photography situations where you need to converse with subjects that are too far away. There are only 22 channels, the others are just different channel and privacy code combinations. Just remember these are not private channel radios. People can hear what you are saying if they are in range. The privacy codes are to make it where you dont hear other conversations. They do not stop people from hearing you. These are the radios to buy! 5 |

I had to learn a whole new vocabulary to understand the implications of the different specifications; once I received it, I needed to read the manual to figure out the various menu options and how to make the changes. I have a copy of the manual downloaded to my phone for easy reference! I liked that the radios have rechargeable batteries and a charging base, both via USB. with the option to use 3 AAA batteries in a pinch. They charged quickly and I found the battery life was quite long on stand-by. They have long-range capability with high and low power settings, though you need ideal conditions to maximize this. I got at least a mile of coverage with trees and other obstructions. I loved that I can get weather alerts as well as weather forecasts; this can be more reliable than using my cell phone when I'm out in the woods or ponds. Real life: It worked well over a mile with a combination of lake and trees. On a recent camping trip, I arrived before others and went off to explore, so I left a radio at camp and asked them to radio me when they arrived. We used the radio to keep in touch while hiking and kayaking. Messages are transmitted clearly and easily. I didn't fully test the full-range, but am very pleased with this. 5 |

I read many reviews. I was aware range is an issue. I have been operating the radios in the FRS mode. Obstacles like walls and buildings absolutely reduce range. When I am using the radios at distances to a mile with few obstructions the sound is clear. So far I have not exceeded a mile. My range in a car talking to my wife in a house is reduced to 1/2 a mile at best which is not bad (IMO). Knowing this should help you understand that the range numbers are all inflated and you shouldn't expect results close to the stated maximums. I bought the radios because my wife and I are moving to a remote area with very limited cell service. I intend to stick to FRS unless I require the extra power of GMRS. The $70 license fee for 10 years does not bother me. The radios are a great value, home charger, car charger, ear phones for much quieter operation, and the options for customizing sounds, vibration and privacy are vast. Both Midland and B&H were quick to respond to my few questions. Again, no complaints. 5 |

Sounds better than my Rode or Sennheisser boom mikes. I prefer this dynamic range and low noise by a mile. 5 |

I debated between these and the Midland GXT1000vp4 for quite a while since these are actually more expensive than the more powerful GXT1000vp4. However, I didn't need more than 1/2 mile range and being able to charge the battery with a standard USB cable along with the fast charge of 3 - 4 hours for the X-Talker T77VP5 was the reason I picked them. I'm glad I did because I've had no issues at all with range (as I mentioned I'm not using them for more than 1/2 mile) and they last all day long. I don't know why Midland doesn't use this battery technology in their other products, but unless you need the extra range that more watts provides, these should be your choice. 5 |
