Echo On Apple Computer Speakers

I was looking for computer speakers that could double as Bluetooth speakers for music and podcasts. I have several BT speakers and an Apple HomePod but was looking for a little more separation. While I was a bit skeptical about the size of the speakers, I am very pleased to say that the reviews were accurate. This system is phenomenal. I am shocked by the depth of sound that comes from speakers of this size, and the integration of the sub in the soundstage is excellent. This is a terrific compromise for computer/BT/bookshelf speakers.

Let’s be clear the HomePod was never meant to be a smart speaker. Instead it was designed and developed to produce outstanding sound in a compact package within the Apple ecosystem and that is exactly what it does. The sound of speakers is truly subjective and to say if Google Home or Sonos is the better speaker is just that, subjective. One thing is clear the tinny sounding echo or echo dot does not compete in sound quality to the HomePod. Siri does not compete in answering trivia, playing fireplace sounds etc. like Alexa. �Siri does take commands in a low voice and does it well. Ask it to play music, set an alarm, play the news, or give the weather no problems. Is it as robust as Alexa? No but it wasn’t made to be that way. Shortcomings? A few... can you ask Siri to stream other music providers through voice commands? No, but you can stream it through Airplay. HomePod does many things well and yes shortcomings exist but the software exists within the HomePod for future upgrades. HomePod is still new but if you are looking for amazing sound particularly if you are signed up to Apple Music you will not be disappointed.

I use with Apple Music with the amazing Sonos app. I have recently connected an Echo Dot and love asking Alexa to play music from Pandora or my computer

I picked up two of these for a total of 4 TB and installed in my SONNETTECH from B&H (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1686537-REG/sonnet_echo_dk2m2_tb_echo_dual_nvme_thunderbolt.html) and getting 1200 MB/s write and 2500 MB/s read. See attached photo. I know the specs are for up to 3500 MB/s but this works for me. I have the SONNETECH connected directly to my 2023 Apple M1 Max with 64GB and 4TB HD. I formatted the 970's in RAID 0 and use Carbon Copy (https://bombich.com/) to backup the entire array to an older desktop GDrive I had in my stable of tech gear (250 MB/s on a good day) and then backblaze for cloud backup (3-2-1) (https://www.backblaze.com/blog/the-3-2-1-backup-strategy/) I have been using this setup since September with no issues. EXCELLENT CHOICE for any Apple computer.

This sounds about as good as any of the other smart bookshelf (Echo, Nest, Homepod, etc) speakers, but the real benefit of a Sonos is that its not married to a single music ecosystem. Echos work will with Amazon, but everything else is a challenge. Same with Homepod and Apple and Nest and Google. The Sonos works with everything and allows you to change your mind on Music Services
