Nikon makes the best glass and if you want the best pictures possible you go with Nikon Glass. I shot a few pictures with it so far and you can't beat Nikon. 5 |

I bought this filter last year to photograph the partial solar eclipse (as seen from here in eastern Washington). The weather didn't cooperate, so I got no shots. However, in preparation for that eclipse I took a lot of practice shots of the sun, using the NiSi filter. I use a Nikon D300 (although I have both a D800 and a D850, I don't want to risk possible sensor damage to the more expensive cameras by repeated shots of the sun), a Nikkor 80-400 mm lens, and a Nikon 1.4x teleconverter, with the NiSi solar filter on the lens, of course. I found, like other reviewers, that the unedited images, shot with normal daylight white balance, look grayish-white. Yes, that can be changed in post-exposure editing, but I found that if I set the camera's white balance to 10000K, the resulting images look pleasingly orange right out of the camera. I do, however, usually increase color saturation in post--just for aesthetics. The filter works great with my camera/lens setup, and provides plenty of darkening--so that I usually use 1/2500th, f8, ISO 100, when the sun is fully in the clear (no haze or clouds). At those settings, sunspots are sharp and clear--as are other interlopers, such as I sometimes catch (on purpose) when shooting practice shots for the coming eclipse next month. The attached images, shot through the NiSi solar filter, show sunspots by themselves, and a commercial airliner passing between me and the sun, with a couple sunspots on the sun's surface showing. I shot the images handheld, in both cases. Images are cropped to better show subject detail. I bought this filter because of its reviews, and because of the good price offered by B&H. I've been totally satisfied with the filter's performance. 5 |

I used this to shot the April 8 eclipse and worked fine! Some have complained that the button locks in the on position when taking a picture. I doesn't seem that easy to do, but when your concentrating on other things it does happen now and then. I think you can train yourself to avoid it, but I chose to play safe with a small piece to tape to prevent myself from accidently pushing it up an taking a single exposure. I had no trouble at all at the eclipse. I would buy this again. 5 |

I love this lens, the 300mm is really great for many uses. Used it for a shot of the Eclipse Totality and captured a wonderful shot. The size and weight is amazing, about the same size as my 24-70 and actually weighs less. Works very well with my 2X tele-converter too. 5 |

This lens seems very sharp and clean. The first thing I shot was the recent eclipse and it did a very good job; even though the range was only 180 zoom. most lens would give problems at their telephoto end, but this one kept it's quality quite well out at it's maximum range. 5 |

Here's a shot of the moon eclipse with a 90's vintage 300MM ED, with a 1.4X extender at 8000 ASA. Was able to capture a number of stars in this 2.6 second exposure with little noise. 5 |
