I'm writing this review on my second V600. The fist one died within the first 24 hours of setting it up. From the first attempt to use it, it complained about the cover not being closed, not being able to communicate and it made strange noises. But, it did work a couple of times and the results were great. I got the defective unit replaced without any problems. And, I'm now in the process of converting my collect of slides and B&W film and I'm extremely happy with the results so far. Only problem I see with this unit is the slide/film carrier is flimsy and Epson does not sell replacement units. If this unit keeps working the way it has so far, I'm going to need a new carrier in the future. So come on Epson, make this key component available on your website. Or, build a more robust carrier and send a replacement to all us registered owners.

The Epson Perfection v600 Photo Scanner works perfectly every time and is the best scanner I have ever used or seen.

I recently purchased the V600 scanner as a replacement for my Epson 3200 Prefection. To date I have tried scanning 3 types of negative and 35mm slides and am very pleased with the speed and clarity of the scans. The copier is an extra bonus.

This is the second Epson flatbed scanner I've purchased over the years. I had some technical issues with the first model and upgraded to the V600 and have been using it with great success for the past three years. My latest and most ambitious project was the digitalizing of my entire photo collections to include thousands of prints, slides, and negatives. This daunting task (still ongoing) was accomplished rather routinely once becoming familiar with the accompanying software. The work was tedious and slow, but the results were acceptable for my needs. However, if I was to do it again, I would seriously consider using equipment specialized for slides/negatives as the flimsy V600 attachment for these formats can be problematic at times. Flat documents such as prints, charts, letters, receipts, etc. were quickly scanned with great success.

I bought the Epson Perfection V600 scanner because a Linux driver was available, it scans slides and negatives and has an infrared channel for cleaning minor surface spots. That latter is important to me since I have a number of 30-40 year-old slides that have some dust and some mold spots. I tried it out in Windows (in a virtual machine) and as I've heard many times--the infrared cleaning mode was not usable with Kodachrome slides using the accompanying Epson software. I read about VueScan, scanner software that includes a Linux version. VueScan has some nice bells and whistles that bring out the best in a scan. Then I read that VueScan can even clean the scans of Kodachrome slides. I downloaded a trial version and found VueScan to be a terrific enhancement to the V600. Together they produce quite nice scans of most slides and fairly clean scans of Kodachrome. Together with Linux they are an extraordinary scanning team for a remarkably low price. Reviews suggest that more expensive dedicated slide scanners may have higher resolution. I find the resolution is quite acceptable for my purposes and the ability to clean up small mold and dust spots is quite nice--not always perfect with Kodachrome but it leaves me with only minor touching up to do.

i tried both the epson perfection v600 and this one and definitely the plusrek wins by a small margin for the resolution/ image quality. i just wish this scanned more than 35mm but it’s all i need for now so it’ll do!

I purchased an Epson Perfection V600 scanner and this scanning mask fits inside the medium flim strip holder. I just carefully removed the medium film strip flapper and the scanning mask fit perfectully inside making it easy to scan the 110 negatives. I have scanned over two hundred 110 negatives. Some of the negatives were warped and needed the magnetic system used when the negatives have curled up on the edges or are no longer flat. I will now be able to archive the negatives for our family.

I used the Epson V600 Photo to scan old family slides, dating back to the 1960s. In scanning over 850 slides to JPG I had no problems. It was great being able to scan four slides at a time. I highly recommend.
