Esata To Hard Drive

I bought this drive to be able to shoot RAW images and be able to edit them on the go without having to worry about running low on internal hard drive space it was an necessary upgrade. The G-Raid mini helped me with both of these issues. Not only did it give me more space but thanks to the RAID it also performed far better than any of my firewire 800 external hard drives. The best aspect of the drive is that its firewire 800 powered, but unlike many other firewire 800 powered drives on the market, this drive has a second firewire 800 for daisy-chaining. Having this option has allowed me to hook up my firewire 800 CF card reader and be able to work efficiently on tight deadlines.. The protective pouch is a nice complimentary bonus to keep the drive in super good shape. The eSATA is a nice, but I haven't been able to use it with my Macbook Pro 17 since my Griffin eSATA expresscard doesn't respond to it. The only downfall to this product is that in order to switch from RAID0 to RAID1, the drive has to be completely formatted, and there is no notice included with the product that mentions the drive needs to be formatted. Overall its a wonderful product, and I'm convinced that if I need more space in the future I will be purchasing more of these. 5 |

eSata works good for an external disk drive. 5 |

Quality of enclosure seems top-notch and it was available with the hard-to find eSATA port. I bought it to use with a 4 TB WD black HD to add capacity to my DirecTV DVR. Unfortunately It didn’t work well (picture hangs up and pixelates a lot) but it’s a HD compatibility issue with the DirecTV box, not the OWC enclosure. It did the same thing when I mounted the HD internally. I’ll use enclosure and HD for backup with my desktop. 5 |

Out of the box up and running and Esata on my laptop is nearly as fast as the internal drive so the drive appears as a seamless integration. Haven't spent the time yet understanding the system tools provided but in general I was amazed that 250G transfer only took 45 minutes which is pretty amazing considering the technology of the past. 5 |

Great for storing video files, especially rendered files as the drive speed is as fast as some RAID's using the eSATA connection. 5 |

The first G-RAID may have been damaged in shipping. When connected it made a loud squealing noise, so I returned it without any hassles. The second one worked, and it is FAST. I have made a couple of exactly similar backups to a Lacie 4big Quadro and the G-RAID. The G-RAID is about twice as fast. For video editing where I need quick access to files, this thing works like a champ. It has a very very slight vibration as it spins up, but it is not so loud as to be heard if recording, certainly no louder than the Lacie external drives. It this thing lasts I will be very pleased. One point, if you use this for Windows and not MAC, make sure you initialize the drive using the USB cable, afterwards you can swith to eSATA. If you initialize using the eSATA cable, the drive is finicky when initializing, and you may not see all of the storage capacity. Also buy yourself a longer eSATA cable to more easily position the drive away from the workspace. eSATA cables are inexpensive. 5 |

I use this adapter to go from my USB 3 port to my ESATA external drive for backups. I purchased because my new laptop does not have an ESATA port, as did my prior laptop. I have not used often but it works just fine when connected to the USB 3 port. I would buy again. 5 |

Not much to say other than, "It works." The rotating cover that slides down with a 3.5" drive on the dock tends to buzz as the drive vibrates in use. A dab of silicone on the edge of that cover took care of that. eSATA performance was as expected. USB 3.1 seems like overkill on a device like this since it exceeds the drive speed anyway, so provided that didn't increase the price... :) The transfers over USB are fast. If the computer and the receiving/sending drive(s) can match, then this dock will give you max speed possible with the drives in question. It just works: tested with Macbook, Windows and Linux using USB 3.1, USB 3.0, and eSATA. I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review. 5 |

7 yr old Dell T3500. Cloned XP from WD drive using esata ext. HD bay for cloning. Used included Samsung software. Drives named a little weirdly (same name for both) in software -clue was drive size and order (from drive 1 to drive 2). Had to change BIOS setting to ACHI mode. Prayed, worked. was nerve wracking and took a long time to set all up so no blunders occurred. Buy OWC bracked from BH. Startup 10X faster. Now MS Outrage (Outlook) works properly, snail to cheetah etc. Best upgrade ever made! Preparation is everything! Get this now! 5 |

I used it to connect my Tandberg LTO5 SAS tape drive and my eSATA Bluray writer to my Thunderbolt 3 laptop. No problems. You will need compatible SAS cables. 5 |
