External Ssd Hard Drive For Laptop

Makes using small-size external SSd convenient to use with a laptop. External drive no longer has to dangle off the USB connecting port, it helps keep the connection more secure. 5 |

Slim and fast SSD drive, excellent for on the go, or as an external drive for desktop/laptop. 5 |

I use this to keep my external hard drive connected to my laptop. I used to just let it hangout next to my computer. This is sooooo much better. 5 |

I needed another external USB SSD to handle all of the raw image files I need to work on. I use it primarily as a vehicle for taking my raw files on the road and, when I am traveling, as a means for storing those files. I bought my first Crucial external SSD (the X6 version) for the same purpose and, when I ran out of space (it has a 2 TB capacity), I decided I needed a larger drive that was faster, if that was possible - so I bought my first 4TB XT10 Pro drive. Well, after finding that it's a real screamer and filling that drive with raw files, I decided I needed another one, so here I am, with the second 4TB drive I'm now reviewing. So, what do I like about my two 4TB X10 drives? They are FAST! And they're compact. With their USB 3.2/C connections, I can have both connected to either my workstation or my laptop at the same time, giving me 8TB of extra capacity, especially important on my laptop, which has only a 1TB internal SSD. And, when I'm out shooting, 50GB of raw files isn't uncommon. How fast are these drives? Fast enough so I can edit raw files on my 14-core i7 laptop rapidly without a single second of slow performance. While I'm totally satisfied with my Crucial SSDs, I wish they were larger. Frankly, when those larger drives are available, I'll be buying them. If anyone is wondering what I'm doing with my 2TB X6 SSD, I'm using it for JPG files. So, when I travel, I carry my three external SSDs with me. 5 |

The reason to get this drive is that you have a laptop with Thunderbolt ports, and you want external storage that is as fast as your internal SSD. When you are working on large audio or video projects, you are using the drive at high throughputs for extended periods of time, and a lot of the external drives will overheat and corrupt. Not this one though. This one barely gets warm even when you are driving it hard, and it is as fast as it is rated! I highly recommend it! 5 |

I was using an external SSD drive to work on my pictures while on travel. This keeps everything inside my laptop and makes it a lot more convenient. I really didn't need the speed of this particular NVME drive, i.e., I could have gone with a slower, cheaper drive for just storing pictures to edit in LR. but, I really like this drive. 5 |

Be sure to avoid NVMe drives as I missed that and had to scourge eBay for a 4TB SATA drive (oops). Bought this to be used on a 21 day safari trip to Africa for the following reasons: - won't be able to reliably charge my laptop - can't afford the 4.7lb weight of my laptop - cheaper than having 2 sets of CF/SD cards for the entire trip - faster than using a phone to transfer between SD and ssd - works with external ssd's (which I already own) - USB-C powered so no extra cables needed to power it I have only tested it initially with backing up some files from a CFExpress card to an external SSD and the copy and verify method was plenty fast for my needs (copied 17GB in ~1 minute and verified in another ~2 minutes). I assume it will be a touch faster writing to the internal drive but will have to wait while my 4TB drive ships from Italy. I will be bringing this along with me for any future trips I take without my laptop as well as any trips where I may be in remote areas or without access to power for long periods of time. Only con I can think of is that the device doesn't work with NVMe drives, which just means you have a smaller pool to pick from, especially when you want more than 2TB. Even still I would heavily recommend this device to anyone looking for a portable backup solution. 5 |

I've been backing up my mechanical hard drive to an external one for years, so the docking station and cloning software was already in place. I decided to try an SSD and the swap couldn't have been easier. A few minutes to clone to it, then a few minutes to swap it with the old drive in the computer and I'm right back online. The speed increase was remarkable... many times faster for file and program loads, and noticeably faster even for internet activities. If you still have a mechanical hard drive, switching to an SSD is highly recommended, and Micron SSD's are definitely the best brand in my humble opinion (I'm a retired electronic engineer). 5 |

The LaCie 8TB d2 external hard drive is well-built and reliable. This is my 8th LaCie external hard drive and I've never had one fail. I feel confident backing up data on these hard drives. While these are not as fast as SSD (solid state drives), they are less likely to lose data over time (SSD's will slowly discharge over time when not used and can lose data). Fast shipping by B&H. 5 |

I use the LaCie 5TB Rugged hard drive as a backup for my faster SSD external hard drives. So far, so good. The hard drive is reliable and performs well. 5 |
