Fake Cake From Shredded Paper

So far I like paper. It is much easier to clean up after a cake smash.

Unlike some shredded paper that is crinkled, B&H shredded paper is non abrasive, perfect for packing fragile glass items.

Love using paper and cutting it off and starting fresh, especially for cake smash sessions!

I use the backdrop to photograph children. I set it up as a fake room and the paper becomes the wall. I got a piece of baseboard from someone who was just throwing it away and I'm working on getting a section of wood flooring but for now am using the carpet. You can see examples of the set up on @ (that's where I got the idea). It is so much fun and looks very clean and simple. One draw back is that when I pull the paper out and use it for both floor and backdrop, it crinkles because of the carpet underneath but if you have hard floors that won't be an issue.

I wasn't sure I would like this, as I feared it would be like fake fabric texture. But of the several types of photo paper I have on hand, I find I reach for this one most often, both because the colors seem to come out true without a lot of adjustment, and the nice quality and weight it provides. I use this paper to print photo cards for friends, printing 4 to an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet. Cut in half with paper cutter, each half folded in half, makes a very respectable card. I send these inside semi-transparent vellum envelopes. The photos show through the vellum just enough to make what I think is a pretty special mailing. Best to use a Sharpie (fine point) for addressing, so it shows up over the muted photo.

I actually ended up cutting this entire roll of paper in half and so that I had twice as much. I used it during a cake smash photography session and it worked great. The light grey color gives the photos a nice glow vs the white.

I use this backdrop for photographing food and jewelry. It works very well and is not too expensive. If food gets spilled on it, I just tear off the paper and keep rolling it down. A couple years ago I used the paper as a backgroun to photograph a one year old eating her first birthday cake. I just set the girl and the cake on the paper. As you can imagine she made a huge mess. The pics turned out great and the cleanup consisted of tearing off the used portion and throwing it away. Very efficient.

I used this paper for a cake smash session I did with a one year old little girl. It was the perfect size and color for what I needed and I still have more to use for other sessions! Definitely a great investment; the color is very crisp and versatile and the paper is very sturdy and surprisingly easy to transport.
