I inherited my parent's 8mm and Super8 films. The films took up 2 cardboard boxes. I never looked at them but didn't want to part with them. The cost of professional copies was daunting. All I wanted was to see what I had. Now I have realized I have 2 boxes of Time Capsules. I had tried projecting on a wall and screen while videoing the result. That is troubled by contrast problems and flicker despite having a recommended projector. (Sanyo Dualux 2000H) I found the Wolverine F2D on YouTube. There were only about 2 or 3 reviews.There were concerns mentioned about noise, quality of digitization, and rewinding hassles. My thoughts are these after the first 45 rolls: The 8mm frame size can only be enlarged so much. I don't know how much better a higher megapixel camera could provide in terms of resolution. But, this isn't the Reflecta at $1200. It can do 8mm and Super8 and a simple switch is all that is required. It takes a frame-at-a-time and the registration has been perfect as long as the film is flat or not warped. The noise was decreased with an inverted plastic storage bin 14 by 10' by 6. I can watch a DVD and hear dialog while digitizing. Each 50 foot roll takes 30 minutes but at a frame at a time. I don't think the process can be sped up. I like watching the frames go by on on an external monitor using the enclosed video cable. I use compressed air rather than the brush. A minor concern is the lack of a mechanical rewind. You are supposed to reverse the 2 reels and play it forward onto the original reel after digitizing. I found I could rewind offline with an old manual film crank or pen thickened with tape so i could spin it in my fingers . My biggest beef is probably going to be slowing down the .mp4 about 25%. (30fps to 18 or 24 fps) I bought Corel Movie Studio8 (now discounted) which has several useful plugins including image stabilization and speed control (needs re-rendering). But, I am glad to be finally going through the boxes of film.

Very prompt shipping and lovely raw wood finish to my boxes. I particularly noticed how the plywood layers alternated dark/light on the cut seams that show. I would have been satisfied without that aesthetic touch, since an apple box is a utility object. But making it pretty is a bonus.

I'm always impressed with B&H shipping turnaround. I got the boxes in a day or two. They serve the purpose I need and they look good as is. I may dress them up a bit more for style, but the natural wood looks great also.
