....it appears so far. This is my second WD backup drive, and my first is still going strong and running flawlessly. I've tried ClickFree as a long-term storage solution, and it's been a bit of a nightmare. I bought this drive to replace it in fact, because I don't trust the aforementioned. This WD transfers files on & off itself quickly. It definitely is an External not a Removable, but it doesn't have the massive footprint (size) my old Verbatim External had. My one bone to pick: It is secure, yes. Kinda. When you install the software you can set it to always remain signed-in from your primary host-PC. Which makes sense, being that it's an External not a Removable! But I also use it with my laptop. I had to install the system-files on my laptop, then when I plug the drive into my laptop I need to manually run any one of the WD software applications so it prompts me for my password. Only after this can I see the drive when it's plugged-into my laptop. It would be nice if the drive was recognized but I was prompted for my password. I keep a copy of the system files off-disk, and I'm sure they're available free from WD's website. 5 |

Crisp colour however software updates are bothersome as there are many and require printer password to update which adds to the frustration and delays 5 |

I am a long time Windows user, but opted to try this machine since it could run both operating systems (MAC being a closed system). A similarly configured Windows machine would be much lower in cost, but won't run OX. For a $ (at $ one wonders why this is not offered as part of the software with the machine) the machine can add server software to host websites, file share, have an email server, and the OSX (iPhone style) calandar/contacts integration, instant messaging. While not simple, it is easier to use (but less powerful and flexible) than a Windows based server. I found that in a small office environment intregration with OSX (IPad IPhone) very useful, and this is why I give the machine a 5 star rating (that and the machine is whisper quiet, but still very powerful). The machine comes with NO manual whatsoever. At this price you would expect at least a few pages of paper describing the features of the machine, setup instructions, and a thumb drive( there is no disk drive) that contains more detailed instructions. If you are new to Apple like me you will need to buy an instruction book and introduction to the operating system and to the server (if installed). When you need help, you are directed to your local @ and serviced by an Apple Genius in the same manner (in the same long lines) as IPhone and IPad users. Monitors and external devices are connected through Thunderbolt or USB devices. Thunderbolt technologies can be daisy chained, but make sure your devices have more than one thunderbolt port so that you can take advantage of daisy chaining. The only other wired ports are two network ports. Wireless support for a wireless mouse/trackpad and wireless keyboard, Bluetooth, wi fi, and air play are standard. 5 |

Here there be dragons! This is a professional level device, and needs at least a reasonable level of IT expertise to get the most of it. Also it absolutely needs either a Dream machine/router to be the heart of the system, or you need to be fully comfortable building a Linux server to host the Unifi host software. I personally already had an Ubuntu server I used as a custom firewall, so I deployed the software there to run the system. I see all these questions about PoE injectors... that means you're doing it wrong. All Unifi main switches (8 port and up) provide PoE for multiple APs and mini switches. One of these systems need planning, I strongly suggest using the Unifi design center first to plan out your coverage and wiring routes. I was fortunate enough to have Cat 5e drops in nearly every room leading back to my closet, so my clothes closet doubles as a wiring closet. About the AP itself, it has better reach and features than any consumer grade device, which is what I wanted it for. I have 2 of these and 2 of the 6 Minis deployed around my sprawling 1 story house, and every device has near perfect Wi-Fi now, as does my front and back yards. Not a cheap investment when you include the 16 port Unifi switch at the heart of it, but yay for PoE on every device, multiple VLANs, channel/bandwidth tuning, locking devices to specific APs, etc. 5 |

If you have a Server the software that Cyberpower provides will work to provide a graceful shutdown. Bought a similar product by APC and found out that they no longer support Server shutdowns. Installed this on 2019 Server STD edition. 5 |

I am completely delighted with this NAS. The USB ports and two ESATA ports make it easy to add several external hard drives. Included with the purchase are licenses for a PC backup program that could replace a backup program that you purchase for your PCs. This software seems to work well, although I must admit I have not yet needed to restore any backups made using this software. The MariaDB database server can be added via Synology's app library, so you can have a decent database server without having to hire a DBA! Disks can be added and replaced without taking the offline or rebooting it. Synology offers a program to synchronize files between the NAS and your PCs, essentially doing the same thing as DropBox or MS OneDrive, but without the cost. Overall, this is an outstanding unit. I am confident this unit would perform well in a production business environment, and because it's so easy to set up, you save $$ on hiring a server administrator! 5 |
