I've been shooting with the Fujifilm X system ever since the X-Pro1 came out, but had been a Canon L Series lens user going back to my early Canon DSLR days, and a Leica user before that. These days most of my work is with an X-Pro2. I have a fair number of Fujifilm primes as well as several zooms. For walking around, I used to rely on the Fujifilm XF 18-55 zoom. I always felt this was several cuts above the normal kit lens one associates with entry-level DSLRs, better built, and more consistent in performance across the zoom range than a plastic-bodied kit lens. With all that said, after an intensive period of use, I've come to feel that the XF 18-135 zoom easily surpasses the XF 18-55 both in terms of optical resolution and in-hand usefulness. It's obviously larger and heavier than the 18-55, but optically it easily out-performs the sample of the 18-55 in my collection. Resolution is outstanding and noticeably better than the 18-55. Correction seems excellent. THE OIS is every bit as good as the 18-55 and certainly serves to compensate partially for the optical slowness of the non-constant-aperture design of the lens. That said, in outdoor daylight use the speed of the 18-135 is a non-issue, even at the low ISOs I usually work with. It comes down to this: with the 18-55 I usually ended carrying several additional lenses, usually at least a couple of primes, and sometimes the 55-200, just to be certain I'd be ready for something unforeseen. With the 18-135 I've quickly found that unless there's something I know I'm going to do outside of its considerable range, the need to carry additional lenses in a typical walking around scenario has been eliminated. So even though it's not a small and light package in hand, I end up carrying less in total. The size and weight of the 18-135 are more than compensated for by its range and by its excellent optical performance.

I've been using Leica and Voigtlander lenses on my X Pro cameras, for years, but to realize their full optical potential has required a monopod or tripod. I borrowed a Fujifilm 16-55 f/2.8 and was impressed with its image quality, but its size, weight and lack of optical stabilization were huge negatives. When I saw this lens with greater range, only one stop slower and with optical stabilization I purchased this as my first ever Fujifilm lens, and I couldn't have chosen better! The optical stabilization is fantastic and I believe the claimed 5 or 6 stop advantage. As a result, it can be used in dimmer light at lower ISO than you'd expect for an f/4 maximum aperture. I've taken test images and magnified them in camera, and it seems sharp throughout its zoom range, even at 16 mm, where others have complained images are soft. Autofocus is quick and accurate. I love the mechanical aperture ring with real printed f/ stops (no unmarked change by wire for me, as on the 18-55 mm), which has a nice resistance. The zoom ring likewise. The plastic lens hood is easy to click on and can be reversed for in-bag storage. This lens is now seated on my new X Pro3 and will be my all-purpose and travel lens from now on. What a great find and a sea change for me.

After comparing different options in the 56mm range for a Fujifilm x pro3 I choose this lens based on the overall performance and price. Images are sharp with pleasing color rendering and autofocus is fast and accurate. Very happy with the purchase and can recommend.

Nice compact lens that makes already compact Fujifilm X-E3 an even better walk around camera.
