Function Of Brass Instruments In Orchestra

When the brass, woodwind and large percussion orchestra filled the 600 seat auditorium with raucous music for Honegger's King David, the speaking parts within our 100 member community chorus didn't stand a chance of being heard. All our funds had been spent on orchestra and soloists. But the hall had a sound system, and I had a guiet old field mixer. I also had experience with a predecessor of the OLM-10. I took a chance and ordered six. For less than $150, they delivered excellent sound from voices among the singers. The omnidirectional pattern made for evenness with untrained performers. I use this mic to record string and wind (brass mostly) instruments.  The different patterns make it effective in a variety of spaces depending on whether you want to reject other sounds or include reflections.  Versatile and great sound quality.

Gives warm sound to vocals and clarity to acoustic instruments. Has a great -10db function for those rather loud sessions that need to be toned down a little.

Besides fulfilling its basic function, I like the feel and grip-ability of a brass step-up ring. Easy to snug down without fear of over tightening. I use it with the Canon 500D Close-up lens on my 70-200 mm f4 lens and it does the job.
