Garmin Phone For Kids

My last Garmin was a Christmas gift from my kids in 2010, and it was getting a little tough to use the touch screen. This is a great improvement from that unit, with easy to use, crisp touch screen with enhance features. Especially like the bluetooth connection to my iphone giving me real time updates on traffic and good alternate routes to consider.

I bought this unit about 3 weeks ago. I hate using my phone as a GPS on trips and I had an older Garmin that I broke the port on so I couldn't update the maps anymore. I'm really impressed with the unit and would recommend it without hesitation. The only thing I didn't like compared to my old Garmin...is that my old Garmin was a beefier material and seemed a little more heavy duty. That said...if you take care of it properly....that shouldn't be an issue at all.

As a previous owner of a Garmin in reach Explorer+, and more recently a Montana 750i, I am now the proud owner of a mini – 2 and I love it! The Explorer + worked ok to track my activities in the wild, but the keyboard was problematic, and the phone app interface was less than adequate. Two years ago, I purchased a Montana 750i. It’s great, it’s a tracker app, it’s a GPS, it does everything. The one thing I learned when using the Montana is - I do not need everything when I’m out. It’s heavy. I Don’t need a separate camera. My phone and my separate GPS on both my mountain bike and motorcycle take care of my GPS needs. All I really need is a good tracker that can get me whether if I need it. The purchase of the mini-2 and then just learning about the Garmin messenger, phone app, make the combination of the two exactly what I need. And the mini, too, I can wear on my body if I get separated from my two wheelers. The battery lasts a very long time, in the messenger program on my phone does everything I needed to do so I do not really even need to touch the mini-2. And, the mini- 2 costs half as much as the Montana 750i and about the same as the explorer+. This may be the last in-reach device I buy, unless you can put it in a really nice watch with long battery life and easy recharge capability. I’ll be buying that if you can accomplish that Mr. Garmin. Thanks again!

I had considered purchasing a Garmin inReach for a couple of years, after researching the advantages/drawbacks of satellite communicators, and having seen/spoken to several hikers - especially female, solo hikers, as I am typically - who had many positive things to say about their devices. I purchased and used my inReach for the first time in early August 2023, and was so grateful for the sense of security it provided. I didn't have to worry about establishing a satellite connection through my phone in case of emergency, because I could link to the network through my inReach before hitting the trail and knew it would hold strong all day. I and my family had peace of mind knowing that I could message them at any time, with or without cell phone service; and that they could track me and knew I was safe, even from 300 miles away. It was especially gratifying when my day ran unexpectedly long, and I was hiking out at 10:30 pm, several hours later than anticipated. My backcountry excursions take place almost exclusively during the warmer months, so the option to suspend/re-activate service is also a major benefit! There was a bit of a learning curve during set-up/operation, as I familiarized myself with terminology, the location of certain features, and how the device interfaced with the Garmin Explore app. However, the Garmin site and other online resources were incredibly helpful, and I carried the user manual in my daypack, just in case. Overall, none of this was a significant detractor from the many benefits of the device. I definitely, and without hesitation, recommend it!

I have been using Garmin vehicle GPS for decades. I find using a GPS navigator is superior to using a cell phone. Navigation always works regardless of cell service. Every couple of years the manufacturer updates them, and I generally upgrade every few years. This RV795 was purchased to replace a Drivesmart 51 that is probably 8 years old. I like the bigger screen, and the processor is much faster. Reroutes are quick and searches require fewer steps. You can just say something and the RV795 will search for it without navigating menus. It seems to recognize speech better too. The game changer is the overhead photos of your location making it easier to find a way in or out of a parking lot/campground. The caveat here is that you need the RV795 to be connected to a cell phone for traffic, 4 square, and overhead photos which are downloaded. The Garmin Drive app works well and I use it on a daily basis. The GPS and nav still work, just not all of the extras. After updating the firmware, op software, and maps, it took a while to figure out how to make traffic etc. work. Once connected to the phone using the Drive app, it works well. Like most devices these days expect some work to get everything working. The results are worth it.

This is a great device for being off the grid I have a hand held Garmin that was great but this is a step up to be able to use your phone with a big screen and have emergency use as well

I’ve had my Garmin Zumo XT over a year now. I used to my cell phone. The Zumo XT is easy to use, see and navigate while riding. The wireless sharing works fantastic. I wish my BMW Nav 6 utilized the same platform. Definitely a great buy. My only wish is that you could use 24K maps for off-road use.
