Good Optical Drive For Gaming Computer

My Asus rog strix scar edition gaming laptop didn't come with a optical drive so I bought this as a replacement and it works awesome super fast and ready to go out of the box I would definitely recommend

This computer replaced an 11 year old Envy. So far it's working great for me. I would have liked to have an optical drive but can purchase an external device

Open the box, open the computer, screw the card in, put the CD in the optical drive to load the driver, plug in the internet cable, Go.

Not only does this drive live up to its claim of being quiet, it also stopped this annoying thing from happening in my Mac Pro where the drive would be accessed twice, even three times in some cases during a boot or reboot. This was with my older Pioneer DVR-212. The Pioneer was always a good performer in the Windows box is was pulled from but not so good in the Mac Pro. Not sure if it had anything to do with my Pioneer BD burner which is connected in the second optical bay. At any rate, The Asus makes only a slight swoosh noise when the machine is first powered on but that is all. Seek noises are also very low compared to any optical drive I have used in the past. When it comes to burning at high speed, however, you will still hear the whirring noise. That might be unavoidable unless you have a sound dampening case. The Mac Pro is not known for this.

I bought it for my use, but my son uses it for his gaming computer. Love it!

Probably you won't use you Optical Drive anymore, you're in 2012 so just get this and add a second drive. It's amazing to buy this if you have an SSD and to keep you HDD. I use it in my Macbook Pro and rocks.

Added an SSD as my main drive and put my old Hard Drive in the Optical Bay. Don't use the CD Drive that much. Install was a piece of cake. Now I have more space for files/documents.

So far so good! This is my first gaming computer for design and it renders fast and high quality graphics look crisp. I like the sturdy design, colorful keyboard and strong hinges for better portability. Magnificent big screen!
