I use this Hard Drive to store movies, and Share them across my network. Sharing must be allowed, but the Drive itself is 100% Plug-and-Play. Transfer rate is Fast using a USB 2 connection. The drive comes with a special USB cable. The drive is powered by the USB port. Very simple to install and use.

using Synology to store pics and videos ...running out of space on my 920+ 4bays 6T each.... Did not want the downtime to redo the whole array. using the hybrid raid. So got the expansion and 18T drive. Connected the cable , and recognized, popped the drive in ..and that's all it took. Easy....fast ....and back to work...

These are great when I need to share documents with someone, and know I'll likely not get my USB drive back. they hold a lot of information, and are inexpensive enough to give away (ie, not be returned).

It is a top quality piece of hi-if. I use it in my Kitchen to drive a couple of high quality ceiling speakers and a sub. No drop outs, lightning fast. Great for the family to play and share music and podcasts using Airplay2. If someone says "have you heard x? they can share it from their iphone, iPad or Mac there and then.

Even though my Buffalo LS421DE isn't officially supposed to support disks this large, I saw on the Internet that several users have upgraded to drives larger than 4tb. As I was running out of space on my RAID 1 4tb drives, I decided to take a chance and upgrade with two of these. I had no issues upgrading at all. I backed up my existing drives one last time, took them out of the enclosure, put these drives into the enclosure, and then forced reinstallation of the firmware on to one of the drives. I then restored data from the backup drive. Finally, I merged the drives into RAID 1 configuration. Since then, everything has worked perfectly. I mapped the share to my computer as the same drive letter that the 4tb share previously occupied. As the old drives also were 5400 rpm units, I've noticed similar read and write times. All in all, I am happy with this purchase. I'd buy more of these drives if I had a need for a NAS-specific HDD.

Having both USB-C and USB -A connectors make this a much more versatile drive. Many new computers have USB-C ports but many have only USB-A. This drive makes it easy to share files form my MacBook Pro with only C ports with others who have only A ports.

Compact little external drive. This drive needs power so don't share an unpowered hub with other drives. Drive made a clicking noise until I plugged into its own USB port after I read clicking is a common problem when drives share an unpowered hub.
