Guitar Cab Speakers

Great for micing my guitar cab. 5 |

Remember when you used to sit in class, and everyone was supposed to be working on a written assignment? The room would be mostly quiet, with the scratching of pencils on paper... and then you'd hear the intercom switch on. You'd get a couple seconds of faint hiss, followed by a slightly distorted announcement about the lunch menu, then the system would click back off. THAT is exactly what this amp is designed to do - amplify things to a decent level at very low cost (therefore, the noticeable hiss). I built a quirky little custom guitar speaker cabinet with a 3x3 array of 4.5 Jeep Cherokee factory speakers. I was going to use it as an extension cab, then found this little gem. I figured I'd turn my cab into a full-fledged combo. After rewiring the speakers to 2 4-ohm stereo sets, I plugged this amp in, hooked up my guitar (through the mic jack), and the rest is history. The sound is of acceptable quality while at normal practice / listening volume. When I crank it up to about half way on the mic knob, the loud hiss starts (even with all knobs at 0 volume on my guitar and pedals). 10% THD is VERY high compared to most guitar amps, but it was a great deal, compared to buying an AC-to-DC converter and using a car amp which was my original plan. You simply won't find a little amp that does what this one does, for any cheaper. 5 |

The i5 is great on guitar cab and snare...The SM57 is warmer, but if you need a brighter tone... This is it! 5 |

Have only used it on a high gain guitar cab so far, but my first impression is that it does a great job capturing the amp tone, but sounds smoother than a 57 without sounding dull. I have it paired with a Royer 101 and after about 2 minutes of mic placement, it sounds killer. Overall, just seems to do what a 57 does, but with less harshness. Sometimes you may want that harshness though so, of course, you should have both. :) 5 |

So far I've only used this mic on a guitar cab, but I have to say it does an awesome job with that. I've compared it with an SM57 an an e609 and it gets better tone than both of them. I'm excited to try it on other applications. 5 |

so far I used the fat head for acoustic guitar, electric guitar cab and vocals. It provides a warm and natural sound I could not achieve with my condensers or my sm57. the highs are open but not harsh, I wouldn't count on it to pierce through a dense mix on vocals, but for folk rock kind of stuff it's beautiful. On acoustic I used it as the mid mic in a mid\side configuration with a 414 as side, I had to pull out a little around 200hz, loved the warmth and openness it provided. can't wait to give it a try on some brass. It's surprisingly heavy and feels serious. 5 |

This thing rocks out on earbuds, portable speakers, and a 4x12 cab. It's very boomy on an amps so the tone needs adjusting. Careful with the volume hooked to an amp as well, a little is a lot. The aux in audio is so useful for playing along with songs or a metronome with the volume being independent for fine tuning what you want to hear more of. I would recommend this, it sounds just as good as an amp modeler fro what it does. 5 |
