Great for drum overheads and guitar amps. I'd highly recommend them if you are looking to get into ribbon microphones.

These mics give an incredible vibe and are very useful from guitar amps to drum overheads.

Works great and the length is something I can't get from electronic stores like Frys or Guitar center.

This purchase replaced two of my 5 MKH8050's that went missing. They are great mics that there was no question I needed to replace. The Sennheiser MKH8050 (hypercardiod),and the other MKH mics, have a very smooth on and off-axis frequency response, are very quiet, and being RF condensers ( unlike almost all other condensers) are not affected by very humid conditions( no cracking/popping). I've used the MKH8050 on almost every instrument you can think off with outstanding sound: eg kick drum, bass/guitar amp, brass, woodwinds. acoustic guitar, banjo, violin/viola/cello/bass, kalimba, sitar, drum overhead, tabla, djembe, cajon, choir, classical style vocals ( mic'ed from few feet distance). Great for live sound and live recording. Rycote INV-3 are perfect shockmount clips to use with the 8050 ( and the 8040, 8020, 8090). I don't bother with the standard clips-esp. since the mics and the INV-3 shockmounts are very small and this is a bonus for video work. I don't do boom work but many write that this mic is one of the go-to choices for boom mics (esp indoors where off-axis pickup needs to be smooth).

I have 6 MXL 606's now- acquired incrementally over the last several years. I'm likely to buy more! I have used them with excellent results for snare, drum overhead x-y, bass kick drum, toms, acoustic guitar, electric guitar cabinets, bass guitar cabinets, concert 9' grand piano, all with excellent results running into a Focusrite 2i2 or 18i20. This mic is well suited to higher volume / percussive / fast transient sound sources.

i use this Pyle PDMIC78 microphone for home recording on guitar amps, snare drum and vocals. very sturdy construction and very easy to get a great sound from it. the only thing i didn't like was the XLR to 1/4cable that comes with it. sounds much better with a XLR-XLR low impedance cable. i can't believe the low price! it is impossible to go wrong with this purchase and B&H shipped it to me lightning fast Thanks!

I have an extensive collection of ribbon microphones in my mic locker that I use on a regular basis, mostly live, but also in the studio. When the N13 came out, I ordered it as soon as I could.  AEA makes up a good part of my inventory and I knew it was a good bet that the N13 would be a quality microphone. Since purchasing it I have put it through its paces on a variety of sources.  Piano, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, trumpet, flute, vocals, drum overhead, sousaphone and steel pan. The N13 has all the same great characteristics that you would expect from a ribbon, but with something a little more.  With a shorter and thinner ribbon than the other AEA Big Ribbon Mics, the N13 has a better impulse response which translates into a much more detailed signal.  Although I have seen it described as brighter, I would stick with detailed.  Often ribbons are used to tame the highs on drum overheads, brass and especially steel pan, the N13 was wonderful on these sources as the detail was there, but I never felt like I needed to tame the high end and there was absolutely no harshness.    On vocals, I still have the same wonderful ribbon response, but the extra detail which captured breath sounds so smoothly, and added an intimacy to the vocals that was something I didn’t know I was missing until now. The sousaphone was my favorite use, as it was a fusion band, with a New Orleans second line feel, but with electric guitar, bass, drum kit and trumpet.  The N13 made the sousaphone big and bold, but the detail added and element that really made it work in the mix like never before.   For the finale, I was even able to work it into the sub, it was huge.   I definitely plan on adding more to my inventory as I definitely want to use it on multiple sources for some shows I do.

This microphone is amazing truly amazing and can be used for pretty much anything vocals , acoustic guitar , electric guitar , drum overheads etc. It is a total workhorse! and the quality is truly phenomenal especially given the price! The bass roll off and attenuation pad allow for custom and diverse sound applications its so nice to have choice and diversity in just one microphone, and of course again the quality that comes out of this thing even compared with professional studio work this things competes head to toe couldn't tell any difference, 100% worth it ! get this mic!
