Guitar Center Mic Stands

I've been using the same basic guitar center mic stand for almost a decade, and I needed something great to replace it. I've had my eye on this one for a while, and Im so glad I pulled the trigger for it. 5 |

I used this stand to mic guitar amps that sit low to the ground. It proves to be sturdy with a good center of balance so it won't tip over. Nothing negative to say about it. 5 |

I bought this for recording acoustic guitar in a small space. I can't fit a lot of mic stands in that space. I was using a kick drum or guitar amp mic stand stacked on a stock pot to get the proper height, and that was no good. Extra annoying when I couldn't sit in my regular playing posture because there's stuff where my legs normally go. This desk mounted mic arm works great for my needs! It feels sturdy, it moves easily enough, and most importantly to me, it sets up and tears down quickly. 5 |

I am new to video and photo tripods, but am very familiar with mic stands and guitar stands, so I know something cheap when I see it. First off I wasn't sure what to expect. As soon as I opened the package I knew I had something worth what I paid for. All of the parts, including the locking clips, rubber feet, handle, and swivel looked and felt very sturdy and well made. Opening the tripod and extending the legs was easy and smooth. All of the locks hold tight. The removable clip that screws onto my camera (don't know what it's called, newbie) is very easy to take off and put back on, making it easy to switch between gear. I ordered this because of all of the other great reviews, and I'm glad I did. Even the carrying case is nice. I'm not sure it could withstand being abused outdoors, but it does look and feel like a case that can last a long long time if taken care of. 5 |

I needed this for mic'ing several different guitar amps, keeping in mind that the center of the cone on most combo amps is approx. 8 inches from the floor, depending on the amp. The more common straight shorty stands I've tried didn't allowing me to position the mic directly in front of the speaker cone and on axis (esp. since that particular point varies slightly from amp to amp). The fixed height stands were either too short or too tall to hit the center of the cone, and even the ones that telescope a couple of inches tend to be too tall even in the lowest position once the height of the mic clip is factored in. So this mini-boom is the perfect solution. The fact that the base isn't round also allows you to push it closer to the amp. Hardware seems solid, the weight of the base is plenty adequate for an SM-57, and the clips for securing the mic cable to the stand are a nice plus. It's worth noting that the base (although more compact) is heavier than the round bases found on cheap shorty stands, such as the On-Stage brand. One other note. B&H and every other website that sells this stand lists the boom arm's length as 15.75 inches; the actual length is 19.5 inches. Jam Stands must have provided incorrect specs when they first shipped this stand to retailers. I contacted Jam Stands about this, but they refused to do anything about it....I asked if they could send me a shorter boom, such as the 15.75 inch one found on the KD-55. Oh well, still works fine, I just make sure that the boom's length extends inward toward the center of my amp rather than away, so it's less likely to get bumped during gigs. All in all very very happy with this stand. Every other place that sells this stand charges roughly $ !!! 5 |

I do professional location audio and primarily use a boom pole 99% of the time. Every now and then the client requests an impromptu voice over session and prefers the feel/vibe of a mic stand to address a microphone. I keep the TAMA Tour Tabletop Stand and a Tour Straight Stand in my van for such situations. Im a huge fan of TAMA Iron Works Stands because of their superior build quality. The Tour Series is a great option--weight wise--for portability and moving around. For my home studio I prefer the TAMA Studio stands with their extra weight and stability. This Tabletop Stand works equally well in both of those realms. TAMA resolved an age old design flaw of other brand mic stands that screw into their bases. Over time the center post threads can strip or break. TAMA solved this issue by having the center post insert into a sleeve in the base and fastening from underneath with a T-fastener. TAMA mic stands are living proof of the old adage buy nice or buy twice. These are nice stands that should easily outlive you. 5 |
