Gx85 Camera Image Stabilization

I bought the GX85 hoping to get an even better image stabilization than my GH4. That's exactly what happened. Now it's my number one video camera. Perfect! I'm left-eyed too. The problem of accidentally focusing with a touch of your nose, mentioned by some customers, is easy to solve: Go to Menu/Custom/Touch Settings/Touch Pad AF/Off. You don't have to switch off the whole Touch Screen.

After using a LX100 for 3 years, it was time for an upgrade. And the GX85 has the upgrades I was seeking. Interchangeable lens (no more dust spots), touch screen, post focus, higher resolution, and the amazing 5 axis IBIS with Dual IS. I was amazed at what the new Stabilization can do. Normally with a DSLR panning while bursting using the optical stabilization, the subject jerks all over the frame making it impossible to get consistent composed images shooting long lenses. With IBIS and dual IS, the subject remains where you have it while bursing. And with Depth from Defocus the hit rate is 100%. Better than what DSLRs and optical stabilization can do. Also, I can shoot 4K video without jerk and shake. Even with a 300mm equivalent lens. You can't do that with a DSLR and optical stabilization. And, panning video is like on a gimbal: super smooth up to 70mm equivalent. What could be improved is, the way the stabilizer tracks. It seems that the Dual IS uses horizontal lines as a reference to stabilize. Once the horizontal line in the scene is broken, the stabilizer hunts for another horizontal line moving in the direction of the pan. Same applies for the tilt. where vertical lines are the reference. Thus, panning is very smooth in some cases, and not so smooth in others. Another gripe I have is the weight, for a camera this small, they should be able to lighten it up. As for the common downers like no mic jacks, small EVF, and flippy screen, I accept it because of the camera's price. Nevertheless, this camera has great image quality, micro 4:3 sensor, 4K video, a ton of features, the ability to change lenses, and the best stabilization and focus system on the market in any mirrorless camera. That's IMO why this is the best Bang for the Buck travel mirrorless camera. I don't have any photos to share here, but you can check out my ToxicTabasco channel on YouTube to see what I do with the GX85.

This camera allows me to use my vintage cameras with image stabilization. I am also impressed with the performance of my E series lens.. The feature set is far superior to the make of camera I have been using since 1986.

Before you spend more you might want to try out this lens. I spent more...WAY more...for Zeiss glass and L series lenses and my Olympus Pro series 12-40mm lens. While they're all good...so is this lens. Don't let the low price fool you. This lens is well made and I'm completely satisfied with the pictures it provides. Yes, it's a manual focus only lens...but I like that. I use it with my Olympus OM-D E-M1 mirrorless camera. That camera has in-body image stabilization and the ability to zoom in to make it easy to get perfect focus every time. The image stabilization makes me forget I'm 73 years old and sometimes a bit shaky. To top it all off this silver lens looks great on my silver bodied E-M1 (shown with lens, a cheap generic lens hood, and an RRS L plate).

Works really well, especially if you're on a budget but also have lenses that don't have image stabilization.
