I am IT guy who replaces mechanical hard drives with solid state hard drives approximately once per week. This is a great brand, with a good product at a great price. If you want to compare SSDs, look for the highest number of Input / Output Per Second (IOPs) to best judge performance. Read/write speed is not a good indicator. I would rate the drive as a B+, which is more great for most uses. 5 |

This is my second WD 1 TB drive, and I use them to both store and backup photos from my MacBook Pro (with solid-state storage). Even with lots of RAW files, the transfer rate seems fast. It is small, and easily stored when not in use. There is nothing about this drive that I would change. 5 |

Purchased as a Time Machine external hard drive for my MacBook Pro. Works very well - plenty fast for backup tasks. Very quiet operation compared to the Western Digital drives I tried out. Great for long term storage of data as SSD drives are prone to data loss over time if not powered on regularly. Learned this the hard way :-/ 5 |

I am using this hard drive as Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro. I bought it as an update to the WD Elements 6TB version that has been performing flawlessly for over 4 years. I purchased this 8TB version because I needed more space. I have trusted Western Digital hard drives as backup drives for my MacBooks for over 10 years now and never had a failure.
