High Iso Noise Reduction

As a wedding photographer for 6 years, having shot both Canon and Nikon extensively, this camera is a very welcome update to Canon's lineup. The high iso performance is very, very good, with ISO 3200 nearly indistinguishable from ISO 100 unless you're peeping at 100%. 6400 is exceptionally clean as well, retaining good color and dynamic range. Even 12,800 looks surprisingly good. With some noise reduction 32,000 is even usable. Aside from the extra features like the touch screen, video, and extra buttons and button mapping options, the autofocus system has so far been the best I've used from any brand. It's very fast, the side focus points don't hesitate, and it's accurate. As a big fan of Nikon's "3D focus", I'm happy to say that Canon's ITR performs nearly as well. This type of focus mode has been incredible beneficial for event photography and has become a favorite mode for many situations. And last, the extra resolution is very nice to have. You can apply noise reduction more aggressively when needed and still come out with a sharper photo than with lower resolution cameras. Easily the most versatile professional DSLR on the market.

This is a budget Deck with limited capabilities. It makes dubbed recordings that sound relatively okay considering the price you pay. It has limited capabilities on the noise reduction system. There is no way to independently select noise reduction for playback and record. in other words, if you turn the noise reduction button on, it not only turns it on for record, it also turns it on for playback. This might be undesirable. If the source tape used in the dubbing was not recorded with noise reduction, and you wished to add noise reduction to the dubbed copy, you would end up with a poor quality copy. When dubbing I suggest leaving the noise reduction off. If the source tape originally used noise reduction you should be able to regain some of that by enabling noise reduction on playback of the dubbed copy. These issues do not apply when recording from an outside source, and there is an independent high bias selection for playback and record. The high speed and normal speed dubbing work equally well. It does not mute the sound when using high speed, so everything you play sounds like the Chipmunks during high-speed dubbing. You can adjust the record level but not the playback level. There is no headphones Jack. This deck has no Auto reverse or continuous play functions from deck A to deck B. They only play one side and they stop automatically at the end of that side. Basically it's two tape decks in one. A playback deck and a record deck. If you need a deck with more sophisticated features, this is not the one for you. Look elsewhere and pay more money. If however you are looking for a cassette deck to just play those old cassettes that have been laying around collecting dust, or to make duplicates of said cassettes, then this deck should fulfill your need. One strange thing I must note is that the A (play only) side of the duel deck seems to be a little bit better at playing back old worn-out tapes then the B (play/record) side.

Is my second D500, i bought again because it has a fast autofocus, low noise at high iso shots. When you shot birds in natural conditions this two parameters are fundamentals combined with high continuous shooting rate. The D500 is a robust camera. I thing that is the best camera for birders. With my Nikkor 500 f 5.6 PF is perfect. I will wait (one or two years?), for a new Nikon mirrorless DX camera with 24 or 32 Megapixels with similar noise performance than D500.

Excellent build quality. Very quiet in use. Noise at high ISO is easily fixed. Lenses are the best in the industry.

The best static auto-focus (AF) accuracy of any xxD camera to date; it was perfect on two 50D bodies right out of the box. AF tracking appears to be slightly improved over that of the 40D; note that this is based on limited experience as of this writing and several months of use in the field are necessary to really firm up any kind of a decent conclusion. The 15MP resolution is a real plus for bird photography and provides a reserve for those shots that require cropping. Don't look for improved high ISO noise performance compared to previous models; it's about the same as that of the 40D and 30D. The high ISO noise performance of the 50D is very good considering the increased resolution but it falls WAY short of Canon's pre-release claims of 1 to 1.5 stops of improvement. The LCD is actually works outdoors; it's about time Canon made this happen. The only negatives I've found is the self-cleaning system isn't very effective and Canon does a poor job of cleaning sensors prior to shipping the product.

I am new to low light photography, I take photos at a racetrack at night, under the stadium lighting and without a flash. I was previously using the 14-54 f2.8-f3.5 high grade lens. It worked but the noise was high at ISO 3200 and shutter of around 120th at f3.5 with 54mm. After upgrading to the 35-100 f2 I can run a much brighter picture at similar settings with much less noise or 500th shutter speed at 9:00pm; 100mm at f2 and 3200 ISO, but with a brighter picture with much less noise. I can now take sharp photos of race cars moving at 70 mph coming towards me at 9:00pm.
