Great quality, precision engineered. I also bought the magic motor with it, works great either manual or using the motor. I have a sony a7s II, canon lens and a monition mounted to the slider plate.

This grip is exactly what I needed to retain my per-charge shot count after replacing my manual SEL-18200 lens with a motorized SELP-18200. The bigger gas tank even extends my shot count while powering both the new lens and the camera body, because I still prefer using manual zoom for stills, and reserving the motor drive for videos. The Vello BG-S5 battery grip's size and appearance match the camera well, and its materials appear to be very good quality. The grip also improves the overall feel of the camera by making it easier to handle, especially for portrait shots with a long lens. As an added bonus, the battery pack addresses the two major complaints from people using the SELP-18200 on this camera body, which are (1) that the motor bulge on the bottom of the lens barrel prevents the camera from sitting level on a flat surface and (2) that the lens makes tripod mounting tedious. I added a Vello hand grip strap with Arca-Style baseplate to my order, and my shooting comfort has greatly improved. Very nice combination.

In 2006 I got a Panasonic Lumix FZ30 in 2006 and it was excellent. Its features seemed straightforward and simple and easy to use. I especially liked the manual zoom feature. After several years the sensor developed spots and I got an FZ200. The FZ200 had a motor-driven zoom and was generally a disappointment. Zoom and focus tended to overshoot, making fine control difficult. In 2014 I got an FZ1000 which was acceptable but still had the motor-driven zoom and focus overshoot problem. But, I liked using it despite its bulk and weight. It had many features I never wanted to use or take the time to learn. My main and continuing problem in everyday use was hitting a random button by mistake and then having to stop and figure out how to get back to where I was. Usually turning the camera off then on was the easiest solution. In 2018 I got an FZ2500. It is like an FZ1000 perfected. I especially like that the lens does not move when zooming. The greater weight and bulk must not bother me because I have not touched the FZ1000 (which still works perfectly) since getting the FZ2500. I still wish there were focus and zoom controls that were manual without an electric motor doing the actual work, but the FZ2500 does a pretty good job at both focus and zoom.. The FZ2500 has a host of features I am sure I will never use, but somehow the problem of accidentally hitting the wrong button and ending up in one of those unknown functions seems not to happen very much. Since getting a Sony MVC-FD91 in 1999 I have owned many digital cameras. This one is the best by far.

For the cost of a late model Honda Civic (and about the same weight), you expect this lens to be exceptional...and it is. My primary purpose for this lens is shooting wildlife, especially birds. And after using it for a little while now, I firmly believe no other lens exists which meets its abilities. It's tack sharp at f/4 with no significant chromatic abberration along the edges of sharp contrasts in early afternoon broad daylight. Stopped down to 5.6 or 8 at dusk or dawn, you can set yourself up for truly amazing color and depth at such a distance from your subject. The first time I used it, I felt like I was taking pitcures with a small grenade launcher. But, as is the case with most Nikon products, the learning curve is steep. It becomes an almost thoughtless extension of the camera in no time... until you (carefully) carry it back to the car with a rented diesel forklift. I'm quite confident if I were to try to run over this lens with my truck, the lens would win. Handily. I've found my Wimberly gimbal and sturdy Manfrotto MT057C4 to be perfectly stable and balanced partners. And, those of you proficient in monopod use will have no problem at all with this lens.
