Ice Hockey Arcade Machine

I bought this for use in recording/streaming high school ice hockey with a Panasonic CX-350 video camera. It's a great addition to my kit. Highly recommend it for one-handed control of smooth zooms and tripod movements. Now that I have it, It's instantly a critical component to ensure professional results. The servo zoom is awesome as I can smoothly go from a slow crawling zoom to a fast zoom just by adjusting the pressure applied to the zoom rocker. If in doubt, just buy it. You won't regret it. 5 |

I've used this lens to shoot ice hockey at all levels including prep, college, USA Hockey, OHL, and NHL for many years. Despite its weight, the results are simply addicting. Prior to purchasing this bad boy, I was shooting hockey with the 70-200mm f2.8 and thought I was getting good results. Boy, was I in for a surprise! After renting the 200mm f2.0, I was immediately stunned to see just how sharp and bright my images could be. Problem was that I (and my customers, editors, etc.) became addicted to this sharpness and eventually compelled me to buy it. Now, along with my 1DX, I've shot this lens from hundreds of penalty boxes and stadium perches and, if I'm limited for space (so I cannot bring my 300mm f2.8 II), from concourse level with a 1.4X extender. I highly recommend this lens and cannot imagine shooting hockey without it. 5 |

I'm an amateur photog. Been getting better equipment to be able to take ice hockey game pics of my daughters. Just upgraded to the Nikon 810 with some nice glasses, and wanted a solid tripod. This one got some good mentions online and here at B&H, esp. for filming and for being able to go very flat to the ground (wanted in case I use the vid features more). Didn't expect it to be this heavy though, but I guess you need the heft to be able to take the 18lb load that it's rated for. Haven't had chance to haul this to places, but it does come with a nice black canvas bag with handles. Not something to lightly carry around, but certainly I'll feel better about putting my Nikon on top than the old el cheapo aluminum tripod that I have. 5 |

Used this for an ice hockey game with a Canon70-200mm f2.8 lens and it worked perfectly -- no focusing issues, minimal grain, even at ISO 3200. 5 |

I shoot a ton of ice hockey. It requires fast focusing in some of the very worst lighting conditions. In the past I used the Canon 5Dmkiv & 5Dsr and the Sony A7R II & III with the 70-200 f2.8 L and Gmaster lenses respectively. I have not tried the A9 but I have to say the autofocus on the A7R IV tracking very fast moving subject that move in an out of other subject is the best I have used yet and it is very far ahead of the A7R III. Once a moving subject is in focus using continuous autofocus it is lock on to focus and remains locked on as the subject moves behind other subject the reemerges. Tracking a hockey player as they move down the ice advancing behind other players, around the back of the net, then back out in front is incredible since the focus points continue following and appear to accurately anticipate where the subject will reemerge. Simply incredible, bordering on unbelievable. In my opinion a huge improvement over the A7R IV worth the upgrade by itself and you still get a larger better designed grip and ergonomics, vastly more detailed viewfinder and 62 megapixels to boot. This upgrade is a no brainer based on the autofocus improvements alone. So happy Sony rescued me from Canon after 35 years of loyalty. Its a great time to be a photo hobbiest. 5 |

I have an arcade machine with over 30,000 games on it. It tears up normal hard drives, makes them run super hot and slow. I have had several hard drives go up on me because it is trying to access to much date. This SSD was expensive but worth every penny. The games run 10 times faster and this hard drive never heats up. If you have a MAME arcade machine this is the answer. 5 |

It worked very well for our Halloween party and filled up the entire office! I had ordered a second machine, but realized one was enough. You do have to keep filling ice/dry ice around every hour with the continuous feature...but it is really pumping out. It does get pretty hazy if everyone is dancing feverishly around in it, but I think location is key and depending on how the air moves...and dancing spots should be furthest away from the machine. 5 |
