Ideal Temperature Setting For A Stand Up Freezer

I enjoy viewing my temperature setting when I am away from my home since we were forgetting to adjust before leaving.

I like that it is orange, kind of stands out if you have anyone walking around your light stand. I placed to freezer ziplock bags in mine, then filled it with kitty litter from a huge container I had to sprinkle on oil spots in my garage. Kitty Litter worked fine, it is heavy enough to keep the light stand from tilting over. Does have a handle that is convenient for carrying.

This light is ideal for my YouTube Studio's key lighting. The soft box does an excellent job of directing the light in the desired direction, minimizing spill, and illuminating the entire space. At 300w, it is quite bright and dimmable. I can adjust the color temperature to adhere to any setting I desire with the color temperature changer. Another outstanding offering from GVM. Definitely going to purchase more of their stuff.

You can infinitely vary the temperature of the light by rotating the dial on the back. However, the problem is if you want to precisely dial in the color temperature, you can't because there is no marking to tell you what the setting is. I rather wish it had a set of discrete settings instead like some other brands. Otherwise, it works OK. I just eyeball the temp setting. I know it's not the best way to do it but works for me most of the time.

So I want to put a couple things in my review that I had trouble finding out about this light: 1) I did a number of tests and I would put this light at about a 400 W incandescent/tungsten equivalency. Also by setting exposure on my camera and then changing color temperature on the light I found that it is at its brightest between 5k - 5.6k. Which is great! You lose about half a stop at 6.5k and a whole stop at 3.2k but this doesn’t bother me. As advertised the battery will run about 30 minutes at 100%. If I’m ever shooting a long interview, or setting the light up to use at a wedding ceremony I will plug it in. But being able to grab and go with just a stand is amazing and opening all kinds of opportunities for me. I would say it stands up really well against an aperture 120 D. The build quality is a lot better than I expected the entire chassis is metal very few plastic parts even the mount it’s all metal. The only thing to keep in mind is that the dial for both intensity and color temperature is indeed stepped and the drop off from the last 10% to zero seems big. I would honestly estimate that the dimmable range of this light is from about a 200 w equivalency at its lowest and somewhere around 400+ w at its highest. Once again this is not a problem for me for how I am using the light but something to consider. At this price point it’s a small issue. The CRI seems really good although I did not do any legitimate testing to back that up. All in all I would highly recommend this light. I have used this as a key through a 36” double diffused soft box, with camera set to 24fps, shutter 1/50, ISO 200 with talent about 9ft away and I was not at full intensity.

I am very pleased with this stand for the price it cost. It does the job for me without setting me back.

The GVM G100W Bi-Color light fixture quality is FANTASTIC. The soft-box fits snug and gives a beautiful soft studio key light. For the money, I don't know how you could beat it if you need a soft studio key or fill! There are a few things you do need to be aware of so you're not disappointed when you get the light... there may be one deal breaker for those who really need a more expensive light. This light steps in 10% light temperature / brightness increments so this isn't going to replace a $3k Kino in that department (I wish they would add a 1%, or 5% in there at the bottom and top). The warmest color temperature setting, and the coolest, is where the warm or cool LED's go from on to an off state and the change is drastic at that last setting (brightness and temperature). Realistically, if you're just using this as a Tungsten to Daylight variable key you're worlds better off with this light than a fixed 3200k or 5600k as you have a lot more range now without needing a gel. But if you want to perfectly match ambient outdoor light you might not get spot on, but really close. The second quibble would be the stand quality. This is easily remedied by not using the stand, but it would be nice to see better locking and an overall sturdier stand with a light of this caliber. As for light quality, it's fantastic, no flicker issues to date, and just looks good. Output is diminished some because of the globe soft box and I would put it in the range of the older style Kino Florescent Diva lights... it's a little brighter but you're spreading light everywhere so that defocuses the intensity. Overall, this is an amazing light for a bargain price. Limitations are there, but it's not in the quality of light output, just the adjustability of the light brightness / temperature.
