I'm very glad I got this lens, especially since the price was hard to beat during a pre-holiday sale. As others have said, this is a fixed-focus lens, so ideally the camera is on a focussing rail and your object is motionless. You also need to have a good lighting setup. When I received the lens, I did a quick test shoot with my camera on a "Velbon Super Mag Slider". As luck would have it, my kids just noticed a new stick insect hatching, so I used it as a test subject. I had an external flash to one side of the insect, a reflector on the other. (Should have reversed the direction, but this was just a quick test.) I then manually advanced the focussing rail in about 30 steps to shoot a stack, which I combined into one image using the default settings on Helicon focus stacking software. Pretty happy with the results! So yes, this is a great lens for a studio setup. I can't imagine many instances where you wouldn't need focus stacking software to overcome the shallow DOF. Not sure it would ever be of much use outside.

This lens is on my camera 80% of the time. I use it for bird, insect, portraits, sports, airplanes, and even some landscapes when you want to narrow your shot to something specific. I was hesitant whether or not to buy this, but what pushed me was Moose Peterson, who has the best of everything uses it and did a video on it highly recommending it. Normally these pro endorsements don't mean much to me but this one did for whatever reason. I am glad I took a chance on it. It is tack sharp at all ranges, even 300mm and even wide open. Stop it down to f8 and it is crazy sharp. I can not recommend this it enough. If it got stolen I would replace it in a minute. Best lens I own. It is really good for birds in flight. You can't go wrong with it.

Ok I used another filter and it locks onto the lens of the drones camera like it should. My first one must have just been defective.

Very well make, great size to store all of my camera gear. Also changed it up to carry my drones, in a single bag, to the fly site. Great price on sale. Should have bought two of them.
