I just added the WD 4TB Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive to my back up solution (6 hard drives) and Windows 10. I disconnected the power and USB cable from a full WD hard drive and replaced it with this new drive and fired it up. It works great, just like I would expect from Western Digital.

If you have a computer running Windows on a legacy hard disk, you really have to upgrade. It saved me from having to buy a new computer.

Was able successfully clone Windows from original hard-disk and replace it with this OWC SSD on my new laptop. Time will show how long it will last - but having OWC SSDs on my MacPro2008 and MacPro2010: Bravo OWC!

My laptops hard drive died after several years of use, and I replaced it with the exact same drive, I could not get Windows 10 reloaded, something wrong with the image disk I made when the computer was new, so i just downloaded Ubuntu and burned a install DVD disk, and it fired right up and has been working like a Champ.

I replaced an OEM HDD on a Windows 8 HP G7-2246nr laptop with this SSD using Macronium Reflect Free. Noticed improved speed right away. Old HDD was hot to touch when removed. Glad it's gone. Here is what I did. 1) Created system image of entire old HDD to additional external USB HDD using Windows 8 File Recovery tool just in case. 2) Purchased USB 3 to SATA cable. 3) Installed Reflect and viewed support page that explains how to use Reflect. IMPORTANT 4) Cloned all partitions of old HDD in the same order that they are listed under source disk (0) in Reflect. Since is was downsizing from 512 GB old HDD to 240 GB SDD, I paused after dragging C: into destination disk to resize it down to 197 GB and set the drive letter from Auto to C. 5) Added all subsequent partitions including D for recovery (25 GB). Finished Clone keeping all partitions at original size except for C drive. 5) Shut down laptop and swapped out the hard drives and rebooted. Windows 8 recognized the SSD and there was no need to go into EUFI.

This is a great value-- 5TB will give me the room I need to back up files and archive. This is not the fastest drive but I wasn't looking for speed-- just cheap storage. I was also looking for reliability. This is a good brand. Compact, rugged, and highly visible. Compatible with MAC or Windows. Make sure you use a dedicated cable-- USB C to USB C or USB C to USB A-- no adapters. I tried a USB A adapter on a USB C cable and my IMAC did not see the drive-- not even in disk utility. A regular USB C to USB A cable did the trick. It did not mount directly-- I still had to go in to disk utility but there it was. It comes formatted in EX-FAT but I reformatted easily in to MAC Journal Extended. I was up and running in minutes. I also plugged it in to a Windows 10 laptop before the reformat, and it saw the drive right off. A great purchase and I'm happy with the drive. It's no speed demon, but that's not why I picked it up. Image shows HD and USB C to USB A cable (cable not included).

Plugged it into the back of an old Windows 7 PC, ran the install disk and hot spotted it to my phone in within 3 minutes of opening the package.

Cloning this 4TB beast was a bit painful, mainly because I had 4 disk partitions already on my old HDD and tough to go from MBR to GPT with that setup. In the end, I just saved my Windows license, Office license keys and did a fresh install of Windows 10. Went very smooth, needed to update audio drivers to overcome this new crackling, whining sound that became worse after the SSD install. Laptop reboot and disk access is now lightning fast even with my 5 years old laptop. All in all, its a keeper!
