Instax Camera Pack

The Mint InstantKon RF70 is, for me, the optimal combination of quality and convenience for shooting Instax film. I can get more quality and character from my 4x5 camera with Lomograflok Instax back, but that is a time-consuming process and obviously impossible for handheld use. The InstantKon RF70 has a high-quality lens: sharp with pleasing bokeh at wide apertures. Build quality is decent: definitely superior to Fuji's Instax cameras. Be aware that the rangefinder and viewfinder are separate, so shooting is not quite as fast in actual use as it would be with a combined rangefinder / viewfinder. My copy sometimes needs a little help ejecting the dark slide from the film pack: cutting or removing the tape at the top of the film pack solves the problem. I love using the camera and am very pleased with the results.

I got an Instax Wide camera at an auction for $5, including a full film pack. Had a lot of fun at parties with it, and have used it for little gifts to models.

great deal for a two pack! film is a fun size and photos are sharp. i will be using it with my instax mini 25.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The instax square flims twin pack is great. The photos turn out great and are a fun size so you can decorate your room or any space easily . They are easy to load into the instax printe. I like that it's a twin pack so you get double the photos.

I’ll admit I probably wouldn’t have purchased this if I hadn’t found a used one on B&H. After adding the lens kit it was still pretty pricey and I had plenty of “what did I just do?” moments between ordering and receiving it. However once I shot my first pack of film all doubts disappeared. My kids have owned Instax Minis for a couple of years but I now realize that most Instax cameras are not doing the film justice. The colors and contrast one can get are a far cry from the typical overexposed instant photo of yore but it can do “dreamy” when called upon too. I love the unknown element and happy accidents that can occur (even if it’s just to compensate for a lack of ideas on my part). There’s definitely a learning curve in setting the right aperture given the way sensor works and I am still slower to focus than I would like but the results that this camera delivers can be really great and more importantly the whole process is tremendous fun. With film at less than $0.50 / shot, there’s no reason to hold back from experimentation. Do yourself a favor and throw a 6-pack of film in your cart before purchase. If there is a downside it’s that I’m now thinking about an RF70 much to the horror of my wallet.

Pros: The economy of the film. Instax offers 10 pictures whereas Polaroid with Impossible film offers only 8 pictures. A single pack (8 pictures) of Polaroid Instax film goes for $24.95, whereas a twin pack (20 pictures) of Instax Wide film goes for just under $16. So 80 cents vs. 3 dollars plus per print. Also, kids love seeing the shots develop. Cons: Need to have more albums available that match this print size. Not sure if these prints will fade in 5-10 years time.
