Internet Mesh Router Security Software

Good powerful mesh router. The highlight for me is the great software.

Bought the RT2600AC before MR2200AC was out, before mesh was a thing, at least in the affordable consumer market. It was top rated by everyone from Consumer Reports to all the test and benchmarking review websites. Put my ISP's wireless routers to shame (#finity and #T&T). My home is Faraday cage, stucco over expanded steel (steel mesh) so WIFI outdoors for security cams, handhelds and laptops, etc. was sketchy at best. This was the cure. Moving the existing router to the front of the house provides WIFI to outside outfront, locating this router in the rear of the house provides WIFI to outside outback. Seamless from the street, thru the house, to fence out back, and beyond I'm sure. The Synology Router Manager software allows for fine, granular control of security and privacy, options usually managed by consumers on individual devices. Did i forget to say yeah!

I got this new mesh router after upgrading my internet provider to fiber optic. I went from 200/10 to 500/500 however my old router couldn’t get anywhere near max speed over WiFi. This router gets very close and has much longer range.

Its currently the one and only docsis 3.1 router modem combo that is using mesh technology for coax cable internet. no complaints! wide coverage house. i have no dead spots in my. i am able to get maximum internet speeds in my plan. currently have 1gig plan and getting around 988mbps give or take 50mbps on the speedtests all over my house.

My older netgear router started acting up on Christmas. I determined the ability to receive the internet was the problem. Great excuse to finally upgrade to a mesh system. With the mesh system and Orbi specifically, I have been able to have crazy fast links all over my house and now have coverage on my outdoor spaces as well. It is nice to take advantage of my fiber optic internet speeds.

I own 2 of these routers, one is in my office and the other is at home. I use both with a Synology NAS (1819+ and 1621xs+). At home I also use a Synology mesh router to expand the reach of the wi-fi signal. The price is an excellent value, it represents not only the hardware (very solid) but also the software side. Synology software is incredible, once you get it up and running, the control software is truly wonderful...by that, I mean the software that runs like a desktop inside your web browser, not the DS Router App which is buggy and more limited (but still useful for monitoring the network from your smart phone). You can install VPN software that runs on the router itself (Synology VPN Plus) and remotely login to your wi-fi router and access files on the network as if you were physically there. Cool! The control software also runs diagnostics and tells you if you have poor cables, bad connections, interference, or other issues. You can assign individual users and control access, add parental controls, etc.. And it all works marvelously. By the way, the mesh works wonderfully, as a true mesh ought to do, it optimizes bandwidth to each device as necessary. You don't have to login to separate networks as you move around, Synology's control software does it for you, seamlessly and with no data interruption that I've seen.

I haven't had the mesh router very long so can only review some aspects of the router. Note that I purchased the Synology Mesh Router because a Synology RT2600ac was already installed since 2017, and several WiFi devices had been added since then. Installation was easy and the new router was working quickly. The two routers are wired together and the mesh router feeds into a switch. Things have worked without problems since installation. Synology seems to have an ongoing effort of providing additional function in the router management software which is greatly appreciated. My one minor complaint is that the router software is broken into several modules and I don't remember which module has which function. For example, I backup the router configuration every month, but never sure which module has the backup routine. This complaint is minor and wouldn't stop me from recommending Synology. Still I hope Synology will fix this in the future. When I have questions, the support staff at Synology have been quick to provide answers although they don't always answer the question I think I am asking. Not sure if they are so used to seeing the same questions over and over that they think I am asking the same thing, or I haven't posed the question very clearly. However, this doesn't impact my recommendation as other vendors are much much worse.

Seamless software experience adding this unit as a mesh router with our existing Synology RT2600AC, and sure enough, we have excellent WiFi coverage all over the backyard now for our pandemic summer work-from-home setup.

This router exceeded my expectations. I switched from my Tomato router because updating the software became less regular. Having a Synology NAS and being impressed with its Diskstation Manager software and its regular software updates, it made sense to try out Synology Router Manager. It did not disappoint. Accessing the functions of the router is intuitive and not at all cumbersome. Setting static IP reservations is simple and banning connections is straightforward and a three-click procedure. You can monitor connections and even use the apps Safe Access and Threat Prevention to filter what goes through the network. I highly recommend this router. This model was updated recently to work with Synology’s mesh routers as well. If security is a priority for you, upgrade to this router. It’s both easy to navigate and its software gets regular security updates.
